1. If eulogizing is a poetic affair,
Then praising the noble Egypt is my concern.

2. So let he who is a critic wander in his criticism,
And let he who excuses reveal my excuse.

3. A king who excelled in nobility,
Whose virtues remain for every age.

4. For the sea of his giving has ebbed, so it flooded,
With a boundless sea not described with islands.

5. His praises add beauty to poetry,
And verses about him flowed in every sea,

6. And fulfilled their purpose in every heart,
And its prose shone in every mind.

7. And nothing is more wondrous than a king
Who praised Egypt in every Egypt.

8. Have you not seen every king become a guest
To him, while he is a grateful ally?

9. They wished that from his crown would fall
Some particles of his words like pearls and seeds.

10. If he did not weave them crowns to wear,
He crowned them with pride and honor.

11. And he was gracious in their boasting
With benevolence, kindness and righteousness.

12. He had an elixir-like opinion from Jabir
That turned the sand of Egypt into gold dust.

13. And replaced its heat in its rivers
With gardens, meadows and streams.

14. And made the Nile flow wherever he wanted
As if by his command destiny flowed.

15. To Ismail was the miracle of splitting land
And to Moses the miracle of splitting sea

16. So he split the volcano for pure benefit
While the sea was split for some harm.

17. Have you ever seen a king before
Whom the elements obeyed like captives?

18. Of far-reaching fame, closest in friendship, hoped for
To repel adversity, and gain grace.

19. To open kingdoms and fortify frontiers,
To establish order and reform affairs.

20. Greatly resolute in benefiting people,
Wise in opinion, protected in investigation.

21. When he speaks he leaves no room
For other speakers, even if eloquent.

22. He is pride of world and religion
Through deeds that shine like flowers

23. At the edge of the turban, the blessings of his hands,
And in the highest heaven, his praise flows.

24. O king of generosity, I do not exaggerate,
O pride of all people, I do not deny.

25. You have burdened us with great favors
As if you were Zayd and Amr to us all.

26. It is shameful to flatter one who is unkind,
And to compliment him with poetry is despised.

27. The best poetry is its most truthful saying,
And honest words are the trait of every freeman.

28. We find in your attributes every praise,
And we have repeated it secretly and publicly.

29. And we do not claim your traits are confined
Through times in prose or verse.

30. May God perpetuate your glory in perfection,
And empower you to support the caliphate.

31. And may you remain supporting it, and through you its prestige
Continues through fine arms and help.

32. And may regiments around you remain
As stars around the full moon.

33. Eid al-Fitr brought you distant good tidings,
And Eid al-Adha will come to you with news.

34. You remain still, with success and honor,
And veneration and glorification and pride.
