1. It is the abode of intimacy though my mornings are desolate,
So when the riders pass by it, they hasten their pace.

2. I yearn for their abode though I am not longing
Except for being neighbors with the most beautiful gazelle.

3. And I prefer the imagined specter for they
Departed while their specters did not abandon.

4. I am content with a promise from them that was not expected
And with an imaginary visit that did not occur.

5. Their water does not quench the thirst of the complaining one,
Nor do their fires warm the shivering one.

6. They left behind and did not fulfill the debts of their critic
While the blame is all for the wealthy lender.

7. Do they observe with tenderness from a refined one
Or allow the request of an imploring one?

8. Or do they leave behind some tears
With which my tearful eyes will encounter the day of parting?

9. None of you passed by the processions of departure
Except that I recognized you despite the covering litter.

10. O you who have become confused between the vestiges of encampments
My eyes can distinguish their landmarks.

11. Recite the staff of the camel driver among their halting places
And seek the sandy hill beneath the waist wrapper.

12. And if you want the full moon then glance
Towards the horizon between the twisting sands.

13. Will you O meadow of spikenard return darkened
By the gloom raised toward you from the brooding night?

14. Beware that the base souls tread you with their feet
Or the hellish ones graze you with their swords.

15. Were it not for salvation from the dancing girls with flags
The Najdi would not have been anguished by the secret lover.

16. So deafen yourself until their ears do not hear
The roar of thunder in a rainy cloud.

17. And blind yourself until their eyes do not see
A lightning like the forehead of a blond steed.

18. If you see what I see then look toward
Tents upon the trunks of towering palm trees.

19. As if they raised their abodes upon
Trees bearing luscious fruits.

20. Let me delight the desert beasts with their beauty—
What is the sin of the heedless glancing eye?

21. You left behind the essence of clarity like
One dead except he was not buried.

22. With tears that do not dry, sorrows that do not mend,
And wounds that are not healed.

23. And if the maidens extinguish their flames
The embers of remembrance are kindled for the remembering one.

24. Beware of your youth while youth is deceptive
So when the dawn of old age emerges then shorten your hopes.

25. Avoid it O youths fearing the contagion
For if it draws near they recoil from it.

26. I did not expect that the sword of my youth
Would speak with the polishing of the most radiant sword.

27. The rust of forgetfulness from feelings is more evident
Than the color of smoothness on precious pearl.

28. Shall I wander confused in the ignorant night and find guidance
While I lose my way in the darkness of an illuminated night?

29. And you praised the dyeing of my temples as though it were
Camphor yet forgot the dyeing of ambergris.

30. And if praise of the minister accompanied it
The wise one would prefer the more fragrant.

31. The one with endless fortunes, the son of Ja’far, has a quality
Of pure silver and yellow musk.

32. On earth there are seven seas while his right
And left flow with ten seas.

33. They are clouds whose water is sweet
And whose lightning is the most reddish.

34. His fingers distributed the gifts in the world
As if they had controlled the cups of wine.

35. And if the tithe of money is grasped in his palm
Their souls have been satisfied with the slaughter.

36. A blamer wearied blaming his blamer
In generosity like the fluttering of the hissing wind.

37. He is the most generous yet they envied his name
And called him a squanderer among themselves.

38. They sought what was granted to him but were disappointed
While the seekers of the unattainable wearied.

39. The most generous described him in his actions
So they attributed it to fabricated generosity.

40. He continued to search the secrets of his delegation
Until he responded to the implied question.

41. The deprived attack him knowing
That access to him is unrestricted.

42. Every day they prepare for a raid
With months other than the sacred months.

43. Inhaling the fragrance of praise with his hearing
For not every good smell is sensed by the nose.

44. Vigilant, so if a breath of gratitude touches him
Among the knots of hopes he is enchanted.

45. He struggles and labors then is ruined by what he gathered
A most wondrous habit for people enslaved.

46. By God we swear that there is no good in
Lineage or ancestry for one who is not thankful.

47. If the plants of his orchards were unknown I would have told
Of them by the fragrance of his disposition.

48. His demeanor is adorned with the most beautiful spectacle
And his spectacle is aided by the best demeanor.

49. None wearing a crown or girding a throne
Encircled with favors like a well-fortified fortress.

50. The water spouts tell of his palm
As if they were orators above his fingers.

51. Yet their eloquence is the speech of the pulpit
Do not distance resolves entrusted to you

52. By the planets though the buyer claims them
And pacts that soften the curvature of bowed ribs

53. And straighten the spines of tall spear shafts.
His frown is feared and his silence is dreaded

54. While the sword is hazardous even if not brandished.
Were it not for you no land would awaken with soft breezes

55. Mixed in the belly of its soil with ashes.
And equals to the bricks of a bier whose planks

56. And twigs crumble with the daughters of acacia.
So types like mirages came to you, married

57. To specters of riders like the Jinn of Obqr.
They took the stars by force to the Pleiades and learned

58. To tread the darkness and the false fires.
They do not look at their grim and pallid faces

59. Except by the mirror of the radiant dawn.
They did not wear armor except out of fear

60. Not of a white or brown man.
If they do not alight in your abode then I

61. Can guarantee every congratulator and bearer of good news.
Renew the New Year of the Persians with a position

62. You named the Star Cluster or above the Eagle Constellation.
And pasture your steeds in the meadows of prosperities

63. And a widespread vegetation with heights illuminated.
So if you arrive the water will be most sweet

64. And if you set out the expanse will be most spacious.
I have gifted to you from my words a greeting

65. That provokes the longing of the blossoming meadow.
And had I hoarded money or kept it

66. I would have proven with white and yellow.
