1. With Zaynab bid farewell before the caravan departs,
And say: “If we have wearied you, the heart has no control.”

2. And say: “If the enemy desires proximity to home,
While friends now shun it and proximity once sought.”

3. And say: “If we gain love from you,
None can match what I’ve gained from your love.”

4. And say: regarding her blame, the fault lies with you;
Your reproach is towards one who deserves no reproach.

5. So let him who wished for union or spoke unjustly
Say: “The beloved is at fault,” yet no fault has she.

6. My friend, since Ka’b guided us
To Zaynab, may we never lose Ka’b.

7. Visit her tomorrow, for our caravan
The next day will turn from her and leave.

8. And tell her: “O mother of Uthman and aunt,
Make peace with us in our love, or it will mean war.”

9. And tell her: “For lovers parted, no distance;
No remoteness for broken pacts or rifts.”

10. And a man said, thinking me her suitor:
“You lie! Without her I have all I could desire!”
