1. I fulfilled their covenant and the valley overflowed
So I remained slain while the valley overflowed

2. And I got drunk on the wine of separation and my eyes
Danced tears to the song of the love-torn guide

3. So my youth is earnest and the direction of my tears
Is generosity and the yellowness of my sad face

4. I strive to be happy with union and I have the right
To happiness in the union of happiness

5. She said, after I searched for her everywhere
I met her among the present or the remote

6. I am in your heart so cast your glance towards it
You will see me, so I said to her, where is my heart?

7. I know not which of the three I should complain of
And I have counted them so listen to the numbers

8. Is it from her sword-like glance, or from her spear-like height
Or from her rosy cheek, the well-trimmed?

9. And how much I wished for separation, fooling myself
And busied myself in planting the sapling of affection

10. And hoped from her for union, for she
Builds matters contrary to my desire

11. She is who taught me, and after her I have
Only corresponding with the love-torn pigeon

12. It cries so I make it happy and my care is true
With happiness that carries me to make happy

13. On a night of her separation, wintry
Extended, dyed with ink

14. It was sterile at the birth of dawn and it
Is endless like the night of birth

15. The view is only to prepare my mounts
Girded, with tightened saddle-girths

16. From every balcony like a monk's cell
Describing the stars with controlled reigns

17. The croaking of a bridegroom and a labouring whale
And an eagle watching and a valley viper

18. She etched them so that her steps relayed
Images of the new moon from the horseshoes

19. I hurl them into the desert, scattering its jinn
And it hurls me to the sand dunes

20. Until it lays down a demolished meadow
As it desires it to be demolished and the desired fertile

21. So the breeze sifted its dust and from it split
A river like the breeze of wafting fragrance

22. And the flies buzzed in its thickets, chirping on
Its rods like the melodious singer

23. And the children of conversation frolicked in it
Suckling the breast of the passing cloud

24. And the gowns of humility bared their ankles,
Donning ample wide robes

25. It is the presence of the senior Shaykh and it has not ceased to
Quench the thirsty and a place for visitors
