1. They pitched tents with spear standards,
So I quenched them with pouring clouds.

2. I did not let them settle in Al-Udhayb expecting rain,
Except that Allah quenched Al-Udhayb with rain.

3. They were stingy in letting me see their beauty,
So I remained sleepless, longing for a hidden glimpse.

4. One of the calamities of youth is that
I was trusted but in it I became a thief.

5. And for how many cheeks in the abodes, radiant,
The glances were delighted with the melody of gardens.

6. The tears did not cease raining
Until they planted anemones on the cheeks.

7. Where is the heart that was a slave of their love?
Did you get, O people, a runaway slave?

8. How often when their sun-like faces rose,
I exclaimed, “Glory to Him who made breasts horizons!”

9. And the frowning of the eyebrows, I found it
Shooting the arrows of eyelashes at me slantingly.

10. Beauty is a silent speaker in its perfection
On its beloved face, a mute speaker.

11. A waist that makes lovers say,
“Oh, if only we were belts upon it!”

12. An entertainer on a night whose memory is not recalled
Except I tore my shirt into strips.

13. When the bloody palm appeared I saw myself
Accompanying the bloody spear point submissively.

14. I embraced a full moon whose light the moon of night envied,
Did you see a bright full moon embracing?

15. And I kissed his sweet smile that delighted me,
Tasting clear sweet wine.

16. He would not seek the water of life with effort
Even if he were Dhul Qarnayn tasting it.

17. Until the beauty of dawn ravaged the sanctuary of night
And the light wrested a wing from it forcefully.

18. I saw the darkness' tresses as though
Terrified by the horror of dawn, departing.

19. I knew that fate robs unjustly what it clothed
And shows happiness obstacles.

20. Safe from the harm of loss, you will not see
Except hypocrisy flourishing in the wilderness.

21. O self, traverse the desert and cross the gloom
And inspire the whispers of souls to leave.

22. For soon a journey will reveal its rewards
And hopes will meet what was foreordained.

23. What are millions to me if I do not find
A frugal living matching it?

24. Were it not for clinging to the Imam and his rope
I would slide into the throat of death.

25. I left his presence and returned frequently
When I tested the morals of the veil.

26. How to lag behind a steed who fully displayed
In every limb, to his companion, yearning?

27. I feared annihilation the day I deserted him
And descended the narrow space of my demise.

28. So I left my homelands going out to him
Fleeing them as you pluck out a shot arrow.

29. A gift from God, Abu Muhammad who
Observed the realities of noble character.

30. He bestowed on me from his gifts abundantly
That meanings strew minute details in praise.

31. His lofty resolve constantly unsheathes
A sword for the foreheads of enemies, splitting them.

32. Yes, it ties contracts on Bedouins’ necks
And prepares nooses and stranglers for them.

33. What can an old servant say
Whom the passing years surround in adolescence?

34. He left his father and people traveling
From them, and left in the abodes, mature women.

35. And in the morning, he clung to his noble service
Not having clung to any other before.

36. Does he deserve, in the view of the hoped-for Imam,
Honor that soothes a pounding heart?
