1. Do not blame me for the sins of goblets,
Their crimes are not my crimes.
١. لا تأخُذَنِّي بجُرمِ كاساتِ
فما جناياتُها جِناياتي
2. Drunkenness is an innocent ignorance
In which the wise may stray.
٢. فالسُّكرُ بَرِّيِّةٌ بلا عَلَمٍ
يَضَلُّ فيها أخو الهِداياتِ
3. If you turn from me in the morning,
Then fortune is with me in the evening.
٣. إن كنتَ عني الغداةَ مُنصرِفاً
فالحَظْ ثنائي والحظْ مُوالاتي
4. And if in drunkenness I stumble,
Then this is the first of my stumbles today.
٤. وإن جرَت زَلَّةٌ على سَكَرٍ
فإنها اليومَ بِكرُ زَلاَّتي
