1. The cup gives joy to the one who drinks from it
Yet this young man is devoid of any joy
١. الكَأسُ تُهْدِي إلى شُرَّابِها فَرَحَاً
فَمَا لِهَذَا الفَتَى صِفْرَاً مِنَ الفَرَحِ
2. He turns pale when the cupbearer pours us a drink
As though it were his blood pouring into the cup
٢. يَصْفَرُّ إنْ صَبَّ سَاقِيهِ لَنَا قَدَحاً
كَأنَّما دَمُهُ يَنْصَبُّ فِي القَدَحِ
