1. The nearness of wine brings joy closer,
So begin your morning with a drink.

2. For dawn has unfurled its flags,

And their leaving life so bitter and joyless.

While another fears the hellfire infernal.

5. Each has abandoned their share of life's pleasure,
Preferring to live in continual torture.

6. Come, pour me wine red and pure,
That makes the darkness shine bright and clear,

7. Of color like musk, rich and rare,
Bringing pride to the poor, gladdening their hearts.

8. As though ruby in the goblets it pours,
And the pourers scent it with fragrant flowers.

9. Only the resolute can face life's afflictions and blows,
Being steadfast through its calamities and woes.

10. Know for certain youth's passage is swift,
Make the most of its days that so quickly drift.

11. For the joys of youth last but awhile,
Then vanish, leaving only tears and denial.
