1. If a chalice with fragrance were to welcome
It would welcome the rose when it came visiting
١. لو رَحَّبَتْ كاسٌ بذي أوبةٍ
لرحَّبَتْ بالوردِ إذ زارَها
2. It arrived, so we left it cheeks that appeared
Ablaze with the fire of shyness
٢. جاءَ فخِلناهُ خُدوداً بدَتْ
مُضرِمَةً من خَجَلٍ نارَها
3. As if it had been given a choice in a garden
Of the most beautiful garments, and chose them
٣. كأنما خُيِّرَ في رَوْضَةٍ
طرائِفَ الكُسوةِ فاختارَها
4. And perfumed the world, so it smelled lovely through it
May your world never lack its perfumer
٤. وعطَّرَ الدُّنيا فطابت به
لا عَدِمتَ دنياكَ عَطَّارَها
5. The rain has taken off its robes
Except for its tatters and buttons
٥. قد خلعَ القَطْرُ جلابيبَه
إلا شظَاياها وأزرارَها
