1. Like arrows set loose from the bowstring's grip
She sways, then steadies, drunk with her beauty.

١. ومارِقَةٍ مَرْقَ السِّهامِ تَضُمُّها
قَرارَةُ مَسجورٍ طمَى ثم عَرمَضا

2. I sent her a body for her glances' sheath -
When shyly she glanced, it glanced back seductively.

٢. بعَثْتُ لها جِسماً لِحاظُ عُيونِه
إذا أَعرَضَتْ حَتْفٌ لهنَّ تَعرَّضا

3. All hated things depart their native land,
If far from home a time, they're purified.

٣. ترحَّلَ عن أوطانهِ كلُّ مُكرَهٍ
إذا بانَ عن أوطانِه ساعةً قضَى

4. And every handsome youth whom Time lays waste
Has a cloak that gleams, though tattered and threadbare.

٤. وكلُّ مَليحِ القَدِّ إنْ نَشَرَ الرَّدى
عليهِ رِداءٌ لاحَ فيه وأَوْمَضا

5. As though the hand of one who loves him still
Had stripped it of him, torn to shreds.

٥. كأنَّ يدَ المُرتادِ إذ ظَفِرَتْ بِه
مُجرِّدَةٌ منه سِناناً مُفَضَّضا
