1. Pale of garb and limbs, long estranged from comfort,
Disheveled, far removed, emptied into open space,

2. His face exposed to sun and wind,
Bearing sustenance from the dust,

3. Light of burden, heavy of limb,
As if a cloak's rustling,

4. Assigned by a glance of water's daughters,
With eyes untouched by bashfulness,

5. Many fostered in counting,
Who came to fill the beholder's eye

6. With all the clarity of pearl and inner flesh,
White like polished silver,

7. Or like the beautiful swimmer's arm,
Thus, when he ventured the dice,

8. He won ease from hardship,
He created two fine robes for us

9. In workmanship of plaiting and night journeying,
And dawn carried in the pouch of darkness,

10. While we kindled the flames of dry wood,
Then he passed, and the strings in contention

11. Bore resemblance to the juice of water-pourers,
Released from an emerald lagoon

12. Where he sported in the light,
As if cast upon pebbles,

13. Gazing from a blue gemstone
In a double string whose courses intertwine,

14. To which an offering was made
Of the clarity of radiant morning,

15. Or the resin tears of a weeping cloud,
Our food, blessed sustenance,

16. We prefer it in summer and winter
To meat, raw or roasted,

17. Victuals we gained without toil,
Which we count among complete blessings.
