1. I see an ambition swaggering amongst the stars,
And loftiness from the Most High of steep sides,

2. And lairs of lions and mines of leopards,
And places sought and goals of seekers,

3. Nobility that captured the hearts of princes, though it
Only captures the minds of the generous.

4. It roams with it between swords and spears
And it rises with it between gifts and presents,

5. A youth seeking religion, his generosity became
Pleasant to students and the requesters.

6. The Arabs and non-Arabs participated in it, so it contained
Glory from both their past and present.

7. And how many swords flashed in the east,
Frightening the enemy by their flash in the west,

8. You were congratulated despite the envious with a paradise
That loved you with all kinds of fruits.

9. You hastened to it what is hastened to the like of it
For every beautiful endeavor and diverse faiths.

10. Gardens of basil as if its breeze
Is the breeze of love in the days of connection with the loved ones.

11. As if its canals are chains of silver
When they flow between dawn and dusk.

12. And a meadow, if the rain nurtures it, its gardens grow
Vegetation like the vegetation of the plains.

13. The farm horses from its fruits
Have circular bodies, green tails.

14. They pierced the ground until its water overflowed, so its
Lowlands were watered from an abundant unfailing spring.

15. If the clouds gave them a drink, they mixed
The water of the sea with the water of the clouds.

16. Bearing little fruit, as if they are
The reddest palms of the young women.

17. Making the pearls of clouds intoxicated
When they drink the pouring rain.

18. For them are partridges that ignite the gaze - beware
Of their anger at the misfortunes.

19. It returns to it the snake of water if it turns
Away from intention or is hindered by barriers.

20. So it wore the green grass and bent over it
Branches with green pods.

21. Bunches that equal its drinking but vary
The variation of black and white grapes.

22. Some whose cold did not remove for the sun an eyebrow
From shade except it flirted with it with an eyebrow.

23. Some whose ripeness the vineyard made its path
And no smooth wire ran through its composition.

24. Wonders they became in taste intimate
Though different in colors.

25. You see the water meandering between them
Like the crawl of snakes from every side.

26. And drawing the currents of the Tigris as a tributary,
Its coasts from a departer and an arriver.

27. It flows, and if it does not move an inch for eternity
It is neither still nor moving.

28. Continually generous, the darkness almost responds to it
When the saddened shadows of night call to it.

29. The canals in the meadow pour from its overflowing tears
Brooks that provide drink with the drinking swords.

30. And its raining cloud is veiled in the morning
And its ornament at night is the blossoms of stars.

31. It lights up so if the stars lost
Their way it would guide them in the unknown.

32. It has balconies like tails overlooking
The coasts of the regions, remote and nearby.

33. When they wear the dress of nobility, you would think them
Raising flags of fine silk.

34. Neighboring a sea laughing with light, grassy,
And an ambitious sea of freshwater to drink from.

35. If the fowler gets up early in it and his nets spread
Catching those fleeing doves.

36. You would see the sea daughters bright red
And the land’s daughters white calm.

37. Beauties of sustenance with light and splendor
Given to it without a dissapointed seeker.

38. So a helper spreads good in the wake of one who swims
And the one whose edges bleed from the wound of war.

39. And security, neither does the wild animals frighten its flocks
Nor the birds with claws harm it.

40. It is the meadow, young shoots did not grow its flowers
Nor withering diminish the pouring tears.

41. If its solitude awoke among the beautiful
It would be like frolicking Persian horses set free in the plains.

42. And if it smiled in the deep water
Its strange things between those strange things.

43. And statues, when the night raises its veil
Their pale faces are revealed.

44. And if it saw a human it would rustle
Like the rustling of pens in books.

45. Mountains anchored in still water yet
They are cautious of the blowing gentle winds.

46. If they spot the water’s delegation, you see them
Bidding farewell to its sleepiness, no returning.

47. The caravan travels to it in deep abundant waters
And none but its children are from boats.

48. Bearing men whom grey hair surprised
So it tilted upon their eyebrows.

49. Some sturdy, not awakened by the horse’s hooves
They have horses that do not weaken for any rider.

50. Marvels of a kingdom in qualities never before
Marvels of a kingdom like it.

51. It is the forbidden sanctuary protected from one
Who intends to harm it with each sharpened sword.

52. Places the love never spread its tail
And how many high places between them!

53. Abu Hassan, your love remains my drink
Whenever my drinks become far from me one day.

54. We congratulate you on the innocence whose action
Took the place of midday and the overlapping domes.

55. It returned the gardens of praise blossoming,
And returned the winds of generosity gentle to drink from.

56. So it fulfilled the expectation of a friend and your places belied
The expectation of the combative enemy.

57. If you blame the changing of fate
I will not blame it as long as I live.

58. To you prose not the poetry of a thief
Nor a failed thought or hollow words.

59. Battalions of praise, if you threw them at the enemy
The next morning of battle, they would take the place of battalions.
