غدت لذاتنا أمما

1. Our pleasures have become nations
Since you two have been away

١. غَدَتْ لذَّاتُنا أَمَمَا
فلم تَحسُنْ لبُعْدِكُما

2. And the smile of innocence urged
The teardrop of sadness and they mingled

٢. وقد حَثَّ ابتسامُ البر
قِ دَمْعَ المُزْنِ فانسجَما

3. And thunder softened until it
Became like a supplicant for rain

٣. وحَنَّ الرَّعْدُ حتى خِلْ
تُه يَستَعْطِفُ الدِّيَما

4. And I have a poem that composed
The scattered life so it came together

٤. وعندي قَيْنَةٌ نَظَمَتْ
شَتِيتَ العَيشِ فانتَظَما

5. Like a sun that illuminated darkness
And a branch bearing fruit

٥. كشَمْسٍ سالَمتْ ظُلَماً
وغُصْنٍ حاملٍ عَنَما

6. And a clarity that when it smiled
Showed us life smiling

٦. وصافيَةٌ إذا ابتسمَتْ
أَرَتْنا العيشَ مُبْتَسِما

7. And basil that delights you
And companion that pleases you

٧. ورَيحانٌ يَروقُكُما
ونَدمانٌ يَسُرُّكما

8. And a boy educated in affection
Who now carries the flag

٨. وعِلْقٌ مُعَلمٌ بالحُس
نِ أَضحى يَحْمِلُ العَلَما

9. As if his forehead is a dawn
That contained darkness

٩. كأنَّ جَبينَه صُبْحٌ
حَوى من طُرَّةٍ ظُلَما

10. And something I dare not mention
For fear I'd chase you away

١٠. وشَيءٌ لستُ أذكُرُهُ
حِذاراً أن أُطيرَكما

11. If the craving of the fascination were cured by it
It would be severed

١١. إذا داوى به شَبَقُ السْ
ريرَةِ داءَه انحسَما

12. And if the eyes of Mu'awiya
Were lined with it, he would not be tyrannical

١٢. ولو كُحِلَتْ به عَيْنا
معاويةٍ لَمَا حَلُما

13. So travel and find a sea
Of pleasures surging tumultuously

١٣. فسِيرا تَلْقَيا بَحراً
منَ اللَّذَّاتِ مُلتَطما
