1. O you who stand to take heed at my grave
Hear in it the words of a frail, ruined man

2. They laid me in the belly of the tomb, fearing
Sins whose traces were engraved on my mind

3. I said, "Do not fret for me, for I
Have good thoughts of the Kind and Merciful"

4. And leave me hostage to what I earned
The hostage is kept with a Lord Most Generous
