1. My lady, mistress of poets,
My joy, my love, my muse

2. She is an absent nymph
Who revealed not to the poets

3. A bride of celestial maidens
Who showed not to the seers

4. None like her was seen
On the page of water

5. The poet's passion in his solitude
Every evening

6. Dreams sang in her room
The melody of meeting

7. She danced around me
On the fluttering of air

8. And rustling of clouds, stars and meteors
To others she never occurred

9. In this spiritual retreat

I bid her drink and she makes me drink

12. With pure loyalty
A wine never touched

13. Except the lips of prophets
A wine that was in the unseen

Than the talk of the repentants

Boasting or pretense:

To pious kings

Of grapes in early winter

20. Then it came to a lad
Of stunning intelligence

21. Captivating gaze, an Arab
Passionate, intensely loyal

22. Who loved the sea and shunned
The towering palace

23. And wandered striking
The universe aimlessly

24. He lived like a pirate traversing
Every sea and horizon

25. With a sail made
Of the miracles of the obscure

26. A spinner possessing with poetry
The reins of women

27. Whenever he lusted for a female
Or wandered after longing

28. And the goblet complained to him
Of prolonged estrangement and aloofness

29. He thought to drink but desisted
Lowering his gaze in shyness

30. He spared a drop from it
Such is the way of devotion

31. And generations went by
While he bled internally

32. Wandering in the raging storm
And gentle wind

33. And fate came to him
Or the decree of destiny

34. He called out to the ladies in desperation
From intense weakness

35. So the lady of poetry came to him
Despite reluctance

36. He said: If I die, I know not
Who can rightly eulogize me but you

37. And an elegy from you brings me to life
Despite annihilation

38. And entrusted her with his enduring
Secret or the secret of survival

39. Whispering, as the light in his eyes
Was about to expire:

40. To you what I was entrusted and preserved
In this vessel

41. Do not refuse your love
O daughter of heaven

42. It is the sailor of a bottomless sea
With no match

43. Through it I live, and will disseminate
My banners in the sea

44. This is the wine of my poetry
My love, my muse
