1. Sing of emigration: year after year
And pray for truth, and herald peace

2. And flow, my poem, in melody
And float between wave and cloud

3. Your voice is truth, so nothing takes you
Of the wrong in the corners of earth

4. Be harbinger of love and light to
Wounded hearts and livers ever-ailing

5. They emigrated and lived in exile
In the ideal principle sublime

6. Refused the life of easy luxury
And refused the humiliation of spirit oppressed

7. O heralds of truth, this is an ordeal
That ignites the soul with kindled ember

8. This is life’s war, or blood-feud
And the struggle of good and evil obstinate

9. Islam alone fought it, and guided
With a strong will, and challenged with sword

10. An emigration it was to God, and in
Its steps, birth of events monumental

11. Satan missed its course, so O
Satan's straying in those dwellings!

12. He failed in his goal, and on earth
Remains accursed in status

13. Pages of an eternal struggle
Were placed in every pride and medal

14. Never opened for an arrogant tyrant
Or for a transgressor whose sword was bare

15. But for an unarmed advocate among his people
Whose blood was free, whose protection lost

16. He shook the world from its edges
With spiritual power against the arrogant folk

17. And built the first free world
Cleansed of every wrong and sin

18. To shelter people of every color
Made no distinction between cultured or primitive

19. Destroyer of idols: is there a hand of yours
To leave injustice shattered in ruins?

20. You could not bear them as rock or wood
Yet idols of people today are borne!!

21. Wondrous is their making in an age
When even the blind can see their shame

22. They are dwarf imposters feigning
The speech of supreme deities

23. You see them just as you hear them
Images of fantasy, dreams of the sleepy

24. They gave people tidings of a world, alas!
What world of ruin and blood-feud?

25. It deprives people of their dignity, and you see
Nations of earth as a flock of lambs

26. It was said: for truth, but how strange
In claims they shredded it and blamed!

27. It was said: for bread, but did
The war’s end feed them but death agonized?

28. You, O sun, rise
From behind the night and piled clouds

29. Aim with fire a bow, and strike down
The evil chieftain with arrows kindled

30. The earth is lost in a dark night
The stars fear the pitch darkness expanding

31. Our eyes tear in its wings
Even the bats of darkness complain

32. O hearts that the East has gathered
Upon a spring of truth and love twin

33. And peoples a nation has united
Between Egypt, Iraq and Levant

And lineages from remnants of Tariq

35. In the green hills, and blond valleys
My poetry is inspired by them only

36. With white domes, or red tents
Every soul guided by its love

37. Every heart with a ray of passion
It remembers its kin and thereby draws near

38. The horizon of hopes at year’s start
And hopes for return of the glory that

39. Defeated the builder, and frustrated the ambitious
From Hashimite homes of sturdy build

40. And Umayyad dynasties of pillars
And offspring of formidable ancestry

41. And legacy of civilizations gigantic
Say to it, O year: do not despair,

42. You were but cradle of nobles sublime
That is a glory its people did not attain

43. By wishing, singing and words
But with anguish, patience and want

44. And tears, and free blood crimson
Say to it: the mill turns

45. And the nights alternate loss and clash
So prepare for a tomorrow, tomorrow indeed

46. Is the frontrunner’s stagger in this crowd!
