1. Have we reached the shrine, and have the eyes found peace?
Have we been relieved of yearning and lament?

2. Did you shake hands like one resigned,
And did your lips incline to kiss it?

3. Did we embrace at the reunion, and did
Our homelands beckon to us, making our hearts flutter?

4. On the smiling banks are tidings,
And on the radiant faces, wishes.

5. On the Nile's sky, in the glow of dawn,
Is splendor, and from your lips, radiance.

6. On the laughing banks are flowers,
And on the swaying ships, songs.

7. A day for which hopes were aspired,
And which was talked of by all tongues!

8. Imagination roamed the souls, shaking them
With the bliss and joy of youth.

9. The horizon has a cooled expanse, while you two
Soar, unhindered, above the winds.

10. You float upon the clouds, fluttering
The banner of Egypt, adorned and decorated.

11. You look upon the stars as if
Choosing for them the most precious place.

12. You speak to the stars about their attributes
While the star is captivated by your descriptions.

13. You have captured the gazes with her image,
Yearning, and the eyelids of those in love, dewy.

14. She is a glance, or a look, and you have entered
Into a raging storm of flames.

15. The reins are loose; neither the clouds are close
To you, nor the towering mountains, submissive.

16. The wings have fallen; neither the winds are in sync
With them, nor are the spirits tamed.

17. The disasters have blocked your way while you two
Burn with longing for the homelands.

18. And misfortune walked with you, while beneath its wing
Were two bodies - or rather, two hearts aflame!

19. O, inspirer of poetry - this situation
Poetry in it transcends all expression.

20. I wish I presented its daughters
At the festival, basil blooms.

21. And that I wove from my poetry and its basil
A garland or a string of pearls.

22. I am one who sings of great deeds up high
And praises suffering and sorrows.

23. What wish lies behind tears?
Or what longing behind laments?

24. I have become iron-hearted, though among
People I remain the poet of humanity.

25. And I have devoted my heart to peril - half
To passion, the other half to loftiness.

26. And I have loved the death of the immortal, and have been
Weary of the pettiness of each ephemeral day.

27. If not for the sacrificing martyrs
The void of oblivion would envelope existence.

28. This precious blood which you have sacrificed
Is the first brick in the building of glory.

29. You build life for the nation, and so too
You build life, O valiant martyrs!

30. You embodied in death the unity of a nation
That has tasted all kinds of disgrace and humiliation.

31. The crescent cleansed the blood of the cross, and the
Solace of the crucifixes healed the wounds of the crescents.

32. If for each of you there is an example in the field of calamity,
In the field of sacrifice there are two!

33. Sorry, France, if you despair, for it
Is fate, and you have no power over destiny.

34. Nations that possessed the heights of the skies shook you
With terrors before our calamity.

35. And you forgot Egypt - so no star has fallen for her
Except that you have for it an affectionate breast.

36. Greet the sky of the two lieutenants and sanctify
From your soil the most precious place.

37. For here is blood that irrigated your land, and here
Are two hearts beneath the rock, fluttering.

38. O nation of martyrs, you know best their pain,
And the sorrows and agonies.

39. The cave is too unworthy to crown their zeal,
And their heads are more precious than crowns.

40. For tomorrow we are patient with time, and tomorrow
We forgive and pardon time the unjust.

41. And we extend to the days a handshake

43. And we flap the wings of life and mount
Upon their lightness the shoulders of eagles.

44. And we raise the flag of Egypt, wherever Egypt
Desires, and the pyramids approve for her.

45. Welcome, O Air Force! Our eyes for seeing you
Have not closed their lids.

46. Welcome, O Air Force! Our hearts have nearly
Flown to you in throbbing.

47. Flutter over the safe country, greeting it,
And descend into the valley, serenely and safely.

48. Be for peace its protection and banner
And guiding light across the ages.

49. And if events call you, then meet them
With the zeal of the dedicated fighter.

50. Let every transgressor despair of lifetimes,
And let every coward fear the war of time.

51. Let every tortured soul revolt against prison bars
And every free spirit break the shackles.

52. For the peoples of this free time, there is no
Patience for shackles and prison bars.

53. You, the youth of zeal, have the future hoped for,
And today is your mighty and glorious day.

54. Do not be discouraged by death, for it
Is the secret of survival and the way of civilization.

55. Be among the sacrificing, for the honor of sacrifice -
How many eternal meanings lie in sacrifice!

56. And if you are deprived of the pleasures of your youth,
Indeed, bliss is attained through deprivation.

Sail the sea like a confused star.

59. Walk in the guidance of the two Reds, and pave
Through them the path of glory and rule.

60. The nations have not seen life blossom
As fire in the crimson sunset of blood!
