١. حُروفُ هَوىً ثَلاثٌ مِن ثَلاثٍ
لَعَمرُ أَبي هِيَ الشَعبُ الثَلاثُ
2. First rapture, then sorrow, and lastly despair
That pluck out the roots of a lover's prayer
٢. هَوانٌ ثُمَّ وَيلٌ ثُمَّ يَأسٌ
لِأَطماعِ المُحِبِّ بِها اِجتِثاثُ
3. Yet tears bring relief when passions run deep
As sufferers cry out their vigils to keep
٣. تَغيثُ الواجِدينَ لَها بِدَمعٍ
كَمُهلٍ كُلَّما مِنها اِستَغاثوا
