1. When my Master becomes for His servant hearing, sight,
A hand in prosperity, a foot in difficulties

2. Then why should the report of one who says He has appeared
Be unwelcome to me in my love for Him?

3. And though I do not share that doctrine, yet my words
Concerning Him are higher than those which assert it.

4. For since my hearing and my sight of Him proceeded
My eyes have never turned from Him when He appeared.

5. And can the innermost heart of one who has seen Him
Perceive Him with any other approach than humility?
