1. The pleasures of life are rarely sought
By those whose essence is the cream of seekers
١. عَرَضُ الحَياةِ لَقَلَّما يَسعى لَهُ
مَن جَوهَرُ العَلياءِ بَعضُ طِلابِهِ
2. And seasons of enjoyment in a young man's life
Are like lightning that flashed amid its clouds
٢. وَمَواسِمُ اللَذاتِ في عَمرِ الفَتى
كَالبَرقِ أَومَضَ في خِلالِ سَحابِهِ
3. Rather, the wise man only seeks his livelihood
And to veil his nakedness and lift his veil
٣. بَل إِنَّما يَسعى اللَبيبُ لِقوتِهِ
وَلِسَترِ عَورَتِهِ وَكَشفِ حِجابِهِ
4. He is not deterred by the shadow of a long delusion
Or its mirage that deceives the lost with its illusion
٤. لَم يُثنِهِ عَن ظِلِّ ضالِ طُوَيلِعٍ
وَشَرابِهِ خَدعُ الفَلا بِسَرابِهِ
