1. His singing brings joy,
Exchanging poverty for riches.

2. I saw him in a gathering,
And found the company pleasing.

3. My insight did not fail me
When I drew near.

4. I wondered who this was,
That could be so benevolent.

5. I thought I would test him,
With suspicious intent.

6. So I said, from among them,
"Brother, sing us a song!"

7. It was not an easy day for me
In that gathering.

8. He frowned,
And his eyebrows knitted.

9. The room filled with
A foul stench from him.

10. When it landed, it planted
The causes of misery in the soul.

11. He said what someone says
Who hears amidst oblivion:

12. Nor did he stop at melody and
Mixture until he sang out of tune.

13. How he pretended and
Tomorrow, how we will mate!

14. Feigning a chorus, as if
He composed and hummed it.

15. He cried out a jarring voice
Beyond the bounds of propriety.

16. Unaware, his company,
Of what he had brought upon the people.

17. One held his nose,
Another held his ears closed.

18. Among them, a group
Covered their eyes from him.

19. I was so angry I nearly
Spewed my sorrows.

20. I said, "O people, listen
Either to the singer or to me!"

21. I swore I would not sit until
This one left from here.

22. "Drag the dog out, for
This illness and discontent!"

23. They said, "You have been merciful
And warded misfortune from us."

24. I took satisfaction in removing him,
Easing my soul and praising God.

25. When his figure turned to leave
I read relief on their faces.

26. "Praise God, Who
Has removed sorrow from us."
