1. Had it not been for the flashes of your imagination that I await
The sight of you would not have saddened my vigil
١. لولا طُروقُ خيالٍ منكَ مُنتظَرِ
يُلمُّ بي راقداً ما ساءني سَهَري
2. Even if my eyes were empty of you when sleeplessness kept them awake
The length of passion for you doesn't empty them of thought about you
٢. وإن خَلتْ منك عَيني حين تُسهِرها
فليس يُخْليك طُولُ الوجْد من فِكَري
3. You settle permanently in my sight whenever you visit me
With glory, and in my mind whenever you don't visit
٣. تَحُلُّ في ناظِري إن زُرتَني أبداً
عِزّاً وفي خاطِري إن أنت لم تَزُر
4. O you who tomorrow exceeded the limit of my love though he carries it
Either to insight from me or to eyesight
٤. يا مَن غدا فَرْط حُبّي وهْو يَحملُه
على البصيرة منّي أو على البَصَر
5. If your eyelids and heart covered them coming down to them
Then the eyelids and heart are like the moon coming down
٥. إنْ تَغْشَ طَرْفي وقلبي نازلاً بهما
فالطرفُ والقَلبُ كُل مَنزلُ القَمر
6. If the phantom comes over my weeping eyes
The full moon moves in the clouds and it has rain
٦. إن يَطْرُقِ الطّيفُ عَيني وهْي باكيةٌ
فالبَدْرُ في الغيم يَسْري وهْو ذو مَطر
7. My life! Eyes were fascinated when he moved
Like a full moon and didn't see because he came at dawn
٧. عَمْري لقد سَحَر الأبصارَ حين سَرى
بَدراً ولم يُر لمّا زار في سَحَر
8. So he passed by me while I was sleeping which he brought on me
And I got up crying with flowing tears
٨. فَمَرَّ مِنّي بغُمْضٍ كان جاء به
وقُمْتُ أبكي بدمْعٍ عندها دَرَر
9. As if to honor its visitor my eyelids
Became, at its feet, sprinkling pearls
٩. كأنّ جَفْنِيَ إكراماً لزائرِه
أمسَى على قَدمَيْه ناثرَ الدُّرر
10. It's a greeting from the virgins of the sand, arriving
And the caravan appears from the banners of Dhi Baqar
١٠. تحيّةٌ من عَرارِ الرَّمْلِ واصلةٌ
والرَّكبُ يَطلُعُ من أعلامِ ذي بَقَر
11. And it's only the wind that blew
Over the cheeks of a tale embellished with perfume
١١. وليس بالرّيح إلاّ أنّها نَسمَتْ
على مساحب ذيلٍ بالحِمَى عَطِر
12. How often have I visited them and the protectors of the living prevented
The whites with whites or the browns with browns
١٢. كم زرتُهم وحُماةُ الحَيِّ مانعةٌ
للبيضِ بالبيض أو للسُّمْر بالسُّمُر
13. I throw my gaze at them dividing it
Between the watcher and accustomed company from caution
١٣. أرمي إليهم بطَرْفِ العَيْن أقسِمُه
بين الرّقيب وبين الإْلف من حَذَر
14. Like the eye of a thirsty one that has become
Looking at the water without buds or breasts
١٤. كعَينِ ذي ظَمأ أمسَتْ مُعايِنةً
للماء ساعةَ لا وِرْدٍ ولا صَدَر
15. By God, horses of tears that run their drooling
Are my eyelids and the drops of tears like pearls
١٥. لله خيلُ بُكاً تَجْري صَوالِجُها
أهدابُ عَيني وقَطْرُ الدّمع كالأُكر
16. That slide down my cheek whenever they mention
The excellent predecessors that don't cease to be present
١٦. تَخُدُّ حَلْبةَ خَدّي كلّما ذكروا
منها سَوابقُ ما تَنفكُّ في حُضُر
17. And the air is like a green meadow displayed
To my sight and the stars are flowers like flowers
١٧. والجوُّ كالرّوضةِ الخضراءِ مُعرِضةٌ
لناظرِي والنّجومُ الزُّهْرُ كالزَّهَر
18. And the night is like a black flag that
Cavalry who appear to whiten their pearls presented to morning
١٨. واللّيلُ كالرّاية السّوداء قدّمَها
للصُّبِح خيلٌ تُرى مُبيضّةَ الغُرَر
19. It tells the banner of Banu Abbas the day of battle
When it appears and the Turkic troops behind
١٩. يَحكي لواءَ بني العبّاس يومَ وغىً
إذا بدا وجيوشُ التُّركِ في الأثَر
20. No wanderer escapes from them to safety from afar
That it doesn't overtake and no shelter in mountain crevices
٢٠. لا حائدٌ عنهما يَنجو على بُعُدٍ
أن يُدرِكهُ ولا يَأْوي إلى وَزَر
21. They are the two when they attack nations
Their passing leaves nothing and doesn't spare
٢١. هما اللّذانِ إذا مالا على أُمَمٍ
لم يُبْقِ مَرُّهما شيئاً ولم يَذَر
22. Whether they support or oppose time they come
With the utmost impact on the nations and harm
٢٢. إنْ ساعَدا زَمناً أو عانَدا أتَيا
بغايةِ التّفعِ للأقوامِ والضَّرر
23. Kings of the earth are not amazed when they attack
And the name of the black to them is the banner of victory
٢٣. لا يَعجبَنّ ملوكُ الأرض حين غدَوْا
واسْمُ السّوادِ لديهم رايةُ الظَفَر
24. If it were not for God's hands being the predecessors
This insignia would not revolve with the celestial spheres
٢٤. لو لم يكُنْ وأيادي اللّهِ سالفةٌ
هذا الشِّعارُ معَ الأفلاك لم تَدُر
25. The affairs of the world entrusted their command to a king
Not resembling whom an era has been empty of
٢٥. قد أَسندَتْ أَمرَها الدُّنيا إلى مَلِكٍ
ما افتَرّ عن مثْلِه خالٍ منَ العُصُر
26. As if the events of time told him
O most capable of people, rise for God so be victorious!
٢٦. كأنّما قال أَحداثُ الزّمانِ له
يا أَقدرَ النّاسِ قُمْ للّهِ فانتَصِر
27. So religion has frowned hiding the face of the oppressed
And truth has become revealing the person of the hidden
٢٧. فقد غدا الدّينُ يُغضي طَرْفَ مُضطَهَدٍ
وأَصبحَ الحقُّ يُخْفي شخصَ مُستَتِر
28. So he stood victorious through God revealing Him
By opinion for a time and by the sharp Hindi sword
٢٨. فقام مُستَظْهراً باللّهِ يُظْهِرُه
بالرَأْيِ طَوراً وبالهِنديّةِ البُتُر
29. A shepherd who spends the night caring for the furthest of his flock
His heart is like the wing of the cautious bird
٢٩. راعٍ يَبيتُ على قاصي رَعيّتِه
فؤادُه كجناحِ الطّائرِ الحَذِر
30. The good qualities of all the righteous ancestors
Are collected in him, collecting drops in a flask
٣٠. محاسنُ السّلَفِ الماضينَ كُلِّهمُ
مجموعةٌ فيه جَمْعَ القَطْرِ في الغُدُر
31. He has a hand created for generosity so it
Has a nature just as the two eyes were created for sight
٣١. له يدٌ خُلِقَتْ للجودِ فهْو لَها
طبعٌ كما خُلِقَ العينانِ للنَّظَر
32. O sea, if you don't possess fresh dew
Borrow from the right hand of the Imam who stands firm
٣٢. إن أنت يا بحرُ لم تَملِكْ ندىً خَضِلاً
فمِنْ يمينِ الإمامِ القائمِ اسْتَعِر
33. And you, O moon, if you darken on the horizon
Take refuge in his lofty turban and hide
٣٣. وأَنت يا بَدرُ إن أَظلَمْتَ في أُفُقٍ
فجُزْ بسُدّتهِ العَلْياء تَستَتِر
34. And O sword, if you don't speak of his resolve
Then why do they name you sword that is remembered?
٣٤. ويا حُسامُ إذا لم تَحْكِ عَزْمتَه
فما تَسَمّيك بالصّمصامةِ الذَّكَر
35. A sovereign whose resolves, when he determines a matter
Meet with the allotted fate and portion
٣٥. مَلْكٌ إذا قَدَّرتْ أمراً عزائمُه
وافَى معَ القدَر الجِاري على قَدَر
36. In peace, war shows its support for him
When enemies glance with evil
٣٦. في مَعْرِضِ السِّلْمِ تَجلو الحَرْبُ نَجدَته
إذا الأعادي رَمَوا باللّحْظِ من أَشَر
37. So the browns are held in check and the whites sheathed
But they are in scabbards from them and in hips
٣٧. فالسُّمْرُ مركوزةٌ والبِيضُ مُغمَدةٌ
لكنّها في طُلىً منهمْ وفي ثُغَر
38. If one day straight and curved meet for him
Both drawn from sheaths from them and broken
٣٨. إذا تلاقَتْ له يوماً قناً وعِداً
أَجلَيْنَ عن مِزقٍ منها وعن كِسَر
39. From every hardened calf for it with the calf intertwined
And every chest for it in the chest crushed
٣٩. من كلِّ كَعْبٍ لها بالكَعْبِ مُختلِطٍ
وكلِّ صَدْرٍ لها في الصَّدْرِ مُنْكَسِر
40. God's gift to you as you shepherd the land crooked
From an emulator of the ways of the righteous fathers
٤٠. للّهِ دَرُّك إذ تَرعَى الورَى حَدِباً
من مُقْتفٍ سُنَنَ الآباء مُقْتَفِر
41. From the Abbasid servant of God, he has knowledge of guidance
That appears through eloquence in more amazing than ink
٤١. له من الحَبْرِ عبدِ اللّهِ علْمُ هُدىً
يُجْلَى من النُّطْقِ في أَبهَى من الحِبَر
42. And the blackening of whiteness with it enchants the heart
As if it were a collection of houris
٤٢. ويَسحَرُ القلبَ تسويدُ البياضِ بِه
كأنّما هو مجموعٌ منَ الحَوَر
43. O you whose politics is justice and whose conduct
To every inquirer and examiner about it
٤٣. يا مَنْ سريرتُه عَدْلٌ وسيرتُه
لكلِّ مُستَخْبِرٍ عنها ومُخْتَبِر
44. We ransom you from a sovereign if he becomes vengeful
He delays and if asked for favor he rushes
٤٤. نَفديك من مَلِكٍ إنْ يَغْدُ مُنْتَقِماً
يُمهِلْ وإنْ يُسألِ الإنعامَ يَبتَدِر
45. The time is your servant, the land shepherds it out of nobility
So command it regarding us as you wish it obey
٤٥. أَغَرُّ أَزهَرُ فيّاضٌ أَنامِلُه
من معشرٍ كمصابيحِ الدُّجَى زُهُر
46. And the earth is your land, sustenance hosted in it for you
And all mankind are your guests, and slaughter with the full moon
٤٦. قومٌ بنو خَيرِ أَعمامِ النّبيِ هُمُ
فما يُدانيهمُ فَخْرٌ لمُفتَخِر
47. Remain then, commander of the faithful, for us
Pampered in the shade of a kingdom that does not fade
٤٧. يا وارثَ الأرضِ والأمرِ المُطاعِ بها
إرْثاً من السّابقِ المكتوبِ في الزُّبُر
48. Fast and breakfast happily and throw the hearts of
The envious becoming fasting and breakfasting
٤٨. بِكُمْ قديماً رسولُ اللّهِ بَشَّرنا
كما بِه بشّرتْنا سالفُ النُّذُر
49. Begin with your family in a delighted spirit
And your loyalists in long life
٤٩. لمّا غدا من أبيكم واضِعاً يَدَهُ
مَجداً على ظَهْرِ خيرِ البدْوِ والحضَر
50. No stars shone in the wing of night, blossoms
As if they were pearls gleaming in turtledoves
٥٠. وأنتُمُ فيه أسرارٌ مُكتَّمةٌ
من كلِّ وارثِ مُلْكِ الأرضِ مُنتظَر
٥١. إليكُمُ مَدَّ يُمناهُ يُعاهِدُكم
هُناك بالعدلِ والإحسانِ في السِّيَر
٥٢. شبيهَ ما عاهدَ اللّهُ الأنامَ وهم
من بعدُ في الظَّهْرِ سِرٌّ من أَبي البَشَر
٥٣. حُكْمٌ قضَى لكُمُ رَبُّ السّماء به
على العبادِ برَغْمِ الكاشِحِ الأشِر
٥٤. هل بعد قولِ رسولِ اللّهِ من رِيَبٍ
أم هل كصِدقِ رسول اللّه في خَبَر
٥٥. سَمَّى الخلافةَ مُلكاً بعد أَربعةٍ
هم في الأنام وأنتم خِيرةُ الخِيَر
٥٦. وقال من بعدُ للعبّاس في مَلأَ
افخَرْ فأنت أبو الأملاك من مُضَر
٥٧. فعِلْمُنا مُدّةَ الدنيا خلافَتُكُم
بواضحٍ في بُطون الكُتْب مُستَطَر
٥٨. لا مثْلما زعمَتْ من جَهْلِها عُصَبٌ
لا يَرجِعون إلى عَيْنٍ ولا أَثَر
٥٩. هل بعدَ حقٍ إذا صحَّتْ دلائلُه
إلاّ ضلالٌ فخُذْ إنْ شِئْتَ أو فَذَر
٦٠. إذا تَلوْنا أحاديثاً رُوِينَ لكم
تَريبُنا نَفْرةٌ تَبدو على نَفَر
٦١. حتّى لقد صار يَحكي قولُ ذي أثَرٍ
على فؤادِ المُعادي فِعْلَ ذي أُثُر
٦٢. عليه حَرْفٌ من المأثور مُشتَهِرٌ
نظيرَ حَرْفٍ من المأثورِ مُشتَهر
٦٣. إلى إمام الهُدَى مَدَّتْ هَواديَها
عِيسٌ وصلْن لنا الآصالَ بالبُكَر
٦٤. حتّى حطَطْنا إلى الزّوراء أرحُلَها
وعُوجُ أضلاعِها يُعدَدْن من ضُمُر
٦٥. كأنّها من وعولٍ وَسْطَ مُنتطَحٍ
سلَكْنَ أو من رماحٍ بين مشتَجَر
٦٦. سارتْ بنا وسرَتْ حتّى أَتَتْه بنا
ومَن يَزُرْ كعبةَ العلياء لم يَجُر
٦٧. خليفةَ اللهِ صفْحاً عن أخي زَلَلٍ
فَمدْحُ مثْلكَ شَيءٌ ليس في القُدَر
٦٨. لغيرِك الدّهرَ قَولي إن مَدحتُ أَصِخْ
وعند مَدحِك قَولي كلُّه اغتَفِر
٦٩. إن لم تُعِدْ نظَراً فينا بعَيْن رِضاً
لم يَخلُص الصَفْوُ لي يوماً من الكَدَر
٧٠. لولا رجاءٌ وخوفٌ منك مُقتَسَمٌ
ما كان عن ذنْبه دهرٌ بمُعْتَذِر
٧١. الدّهرُ عَبدُك تُرعيه الورى كرماً
فَمُرْه فينا بما أَحبَبْتَ يأْتَمِر
٧٢. والأرضُ دارُك والنُّعمَى قِراك بها
والضيّفُ كُلُّ الورى والنّحْرُ بالبِدَر
٧٣. فَدُمْ كذاكَ أميرَ المؤمنين لنا
جَذْلانَ في ظِلِّ مُلْكٍ غيرِ مُنحَسِر
٧٤. وصُمْ وأَفطِرْ بسَعْدٍ وارْمِ أَفئدةَ ال
حسّادِ يُصبِحْنَ من مُصمىً ومُنفطِر
٧٥. تَغْدو بآلِكَ ذا نَفْسٍ مُمتَّعةٍ
وأَوليائك في طُولٍ من العُمُر
٧٦. ما لاحَ في جُنْحِ ليلٍ أَنجمٌ زُهُرٌ
كأنّها غُرَرٌ يَلْمَعْنَ في طُرَر
