1. I watch for the arrival of my beloved from the abode of the miserly one
Yet she cares not if I spend the night sleepless

2. The night refused my happiness though its wing stretched long
So my eyes knew no rest, nor did their specter find guidance

3. Thus my eyelids kept watch over the stars’ pasture
While sweet sleep was made homeless and driven away from me

4. Is she not a mere flirt whom they seek?
So if she pleases the loved ones, she is their ransom

5. O my loved ones! How your estrangement wounds
A heart that spends its nights grieving and extinguished

6. If you seek to kill me, and you are the ones I love
Then what is there for me to fear if you are my foes?

7. I will conceal the burning within from you
And show endurance to the slanderers

8. And prevent my eyes today from excessive weeping
So they may remain unblemished until I see you tomorrow

9. Will you, O companion of the morn, come at dawn
To renew a pact or revive an agreement?

10. I yearned, so make me happy for a day, perhaps
It will dissipate that you may yearn and I be made happy

11. For the days are but what you see, so when a hand is raised to you in your world, make use of it
Leave off, O youth, your viewing may heal the eye with a glance

12. For the longing lover must provision himself
Let not the deluded one hope that I will abandon passion

13. Even if the intimate and close one reprimands me
For the enamored one does not care for blame

14. If the one he loves is made happy through union
Just as an empowered king does not fear time

15. With the Guardian of the Faithful, the Supported One, as his patron
The most honored of earth’s kings in self and company

16. And the greatest in glory and joy of all time
You see in him a kingdom whose stature God has made great

17. So disobeying him is misguidance, and obeying him, guidance
Awe-inspiring, if white swords do not bow down before him

18. The white swords bow down before him from mankind
He is the sun up high, and time down below

19. He is the full moon in assemblies, and the sea amidst dew
Though thousands of virtues may be mustered

20. If contained in one, he would be the only one
Congratulations on the victory whose tale traveled

21. So it prided itself on the horizons and prospered
You left through it the enemies’ group fragmented

22. And renewed through the disobedient the threat of demise
The leader of their faction from the bowl of Iraq

23. Leads armies that fill the land massed
He had dispersed the gentle letters as a threat

24. And intimidated with the dense army, warning
The pens did not lie in destroying a state

25. That sincere swords had built and fortified for you
Nor will people of earth gathered benefit them

26. If the Lord of the Heavens supports you alone
You rose before the army in the shade of the banners

27. Of the Ottoman, through which kingship is made fortunate
Accustomed are they that the star upon it

28. Remain an ominous meteor when the demon of discord rebels
Never has it encountered a battle since its first tying

29. Except it returned, its hands not yet filled with victory
So when the two cavalries met, you marched toward them

30. With a gait whose every step had wings
With a people, when tumult flared up, they hastened

31. To the blades of white swords, doubling and singular
They hastened like scattered moths that saw

32. The spark of fire in the dark night, intense black
And they came, filling the space, making lines

33. Between the steeds’ ears, row after row
Then when they thought they had reached your hindmost lines

34. You struck them as a torrent strikes the valley, hollowing it
And they became when enraged, vicious black lions

35. And when evening came, fleeing ostriches driven away
While each has sport in the first lap

36. But the lead at the end of the distance makes clear the winner
You unleashed upon them, for the length of day, charging horses

37. Whose stabbing made the sight of spears blink, blinded
No sooner had the sun of horizon vanished

38. Than a crimson afterglow colored the horizon donned
Were it not for remnants the rend had mended

39. The pastures of death for the people would have been a watering place
Their remnants of blood were staunched

40. When the sword of the sun in the west was sheathed
While the black of night, when it shaded them, was tempted

41. By the black of the eye and heart, and could be ransomed
I wonder at a people who strove for a goal

42. That was inimical, which they gained nothing praiseworthy from
Did they not witness from you just yesterday vengeance

43. That made the distinguished ones from them drink destruction?
A young man who was most wretched when you were his adversary

44. Though the unwise named him most fortunate
While the people suspected a revered kingdom for him

45. He was transformed until he fell, paralyzed and powerless
And fate for you proclaimed, singing your praises:

46. Misery has struck the one who wished misery upon you
There you left them the untethered kingdom

47. And abandoned the Turkish group, dispersed from them
If they cannot show strength in your absence

48. Why then did they attempt to witness a spectacle from you?
Your claws wreaked havoc among them, O young lion

49. So it is best for them if their tips echo again
You began each stand well, so if you return one day

50. Your return will be most praiseworthy
So until when will a treasonous ignoramus

51. Regarding the signs of your kingdom, persist and contravene?
He tries to mend a fracture with his errant breakage

52. Enough! For fire, only fire will extinguish
He gathers the length of year a group for an army

53. And you destroy it in an hour, dismantled
If one collared with righteousness persists ungrateful

54. You exchange his collar for a yoke
If the transgressor brandishes his sword before you

55. He falls, murdered, by what he himself brandished
You came with the noble month, triumphant

56. So the two new moons I celebrated were renewed
Every mouth fasted from creation for ritual purity

57. And every heart celebrated in joy
Live as long as the eyelids of dusk are lined with kohl

58. And last as long as the cheek of dawn flushes red
You supported the rescue of faith with the resolve

59. Through which, for victory, recruited armies sufficed
And you became a lofty barrier before its kingdom

60. And the kingdom whose shepherd you weren’t became devoid
For this kingdom, the ministry was to be attained

61. Even if it irritated enemies, and they rebelled and envied
God ordained this matter the day you two joined

62. For you were Abu Bakr, and he was Muhammad
So the beholder’s eye has not ceased to envision you two

63. As the radiance of a reposed star coupled from the night
Nor has greeting ceased for the martyred Master

64. From God, as long as the dove moans and chirps
And I have not ceased to be granted success in praising you

65. For the duration of my life, however much I say and reward
And the Most High said to you: “You have done well in attaining!”

66. So you were excellent in appreciation, and have been most generous
