6. I carried riches and youth to them,
Yet I returned white-haired and decreasing.

7. If my tears flowed, it would be no wonder,
Since cheeks are like valleys that wash away sorrows and afflictions.

8. What adds to my grief is that tomorrow morning
I will bid you farewell, son of well-being, and depart.

9. Leaving you a free soul and refined morals,
Lofty summits of glory, inaccessible,

10. Steep valleys of merit, unreachable,
The works of nights that try to restore the ruins of companionship.

11. Glory will not remain in my mind or mature
If I live in comfort far away from you.

12. If it wasn't for the ample free time and isolation
That events and long separation brought about,

13. I would not have left a house for another,
Even if my eyes poured down humility.

14. Nor extend my hand, after attaching to you
The train of the most high garments.

15. How can I deny the blessings you bestowed,
O most generous of all people in deeds?

16. They went intending a matter, coveting glories,
Hanging their hopes on them in vain.

17. The greatest fortune in life is your proximity -
Woe to him who missed it; what did he attain?
