1. The night vigil keeps some nights awake
While security sleeps through all of time

2. Wearing the ringdove's collar, its beauty
For the enemy is the ringdove's ring

3. Everyone born to stab, their nature
Suckling venom from the day they're weaned

4. The stranger makes every letter a lam
The lam's familiar in each lam he's seen

5. O Allah's trustee may you remain
A refuge for all from blame and shame

6. Now of all merit and courage emptied
Now of all vice and blame exempted

7. For God the Caliph in it stands
Upholding right in every task at hand
