1. My soul is a sacrifice for Shaden no matter the danger,
For the heart is in peril from the arrows of eyelashes.

2. The coquetry of the gazelle, the swaying branches and the slender stem
No matter how they bend, smile or gaze.

3. Wondrous is the night with its loose tresses,
As the face dawns with a morning that has set out.

4. Wondrous are the lips with their string of pearls
While my tears are scattered upon them.

5. I did not intend to pluck the swaying branches with his lips
Except the swords were unleashed from the maidens.

6. I did not forget him in the night awaiting his crescent
While my heart doubts his appearance.

7. We were watching for him on the first night,
And there he was, shining halfway through the month.

8. I saw him in a garden amidst the apple blossoms,
As the perfume from this and that spread about.

9. They both reveal numerous beauties,
Filling the breeze, the hearing and the sight.

10. The cup raises its sun upon his cheek,
Nearly making the rays and the gaze dim.

11. Noor is like a luminous forehead, both
Dispelling the night’s darkness with the brightest face.

12. She is a copy of the Shaykh in which a trait remains
That still trembles with old age.

13. You emptied the spirit into the body of the glass,
So I saw the spirit of company shining in it.

14. Only offer the surplus of its cup to the garden,
For the branch stumbles in the train of flowers.

15. The fluttering of the breeze did not stir at dawn
Except it rent souls and cast a spell.

16. It whispered to throbbing hearts like them
And confided what the veil hides amidst the blossoms.

17. Abdul Dahhak related on the authority of Zahr al-Rubbi
What al-Zuhri related from him from Matar.

18. The messengers of the breeze conveyed his authentic narration
And news verified news.

19. Oh palace of Shatniyl, your open country is inhabited
As the garden in you is confined to beauty.

20. By God, your movement and the morning have knitted
Shields beneath it, banners of trees.

21. And the staff guarded its betrayal about it
From all who love flirtation, it made excuses.

22. Kiss the lips of the blossom like the palm of the Caliph’s deputy
Its generosity will suffice you instead of rain.

23. Spread the cheeks of roses beneath his shoes
And make their doubled color that of the chamberlain’s skin.

24. Compose the birds’ singing into praises of him
And strew the blossoms’ coins and pearls about.

25. The select from the essence of nobility, about whom
Verses of scripture have been sent down in praise.

26. The chosen one from the element of light that
Rose in the horizon of the sacred guidance.

27. With power, no matter how much it restrains, with mercy,
No matter how much it pardons, with chastity, no matter its worth.

28. How many swearers to fate said
By God, its days are but delusions.

29. My master, your good fortune in battle
Left no trace of misguidance and spared none.

30. My master, your face and the dawn resemble one another
And both are renowned in the two horizons.

31. Kings are indeed planets I concealed
And you alone rose amongst them like a moon.

32. In every day of your time there is a season
In which there are great holidays for the people.

33. Welcome the days whose meadows grow verdant
As victory and triumph have fruit for it.

34. In them the evenings have waned, less
Than the beauties that shone from them at dawn.

35. Oh son of those who, when their merits are counted,
Reckoning fails and predestiny is perplexed by them.

36. If they unleash the sharp swords from sheaths
Burnished, then chests have long been praised.

37. Ask the full moon about them, the moon of guidance,
For through them the party of misguidance was conquered.

38. And ask about their decisive stands at every crescent,
Recite the battle chronicles in the authentic books and biographies.

39. You will find praise for their valor and generosity
Inscribed in the Book of Revelation sent down.

40. So by your guidance the sun of daybreak rose
And by your people let the boastful pride themselves.

41. What can I say, and every description is miraculous,
And speech about you, however prolonged, is concise.

42. Those virtues are like meteors in the firmament,
He who seeks to comprehend them is gripped by exhaustion.

43. If your servant is absent from protecting you
His heart is present in those sights.

44. So remember him, for remembrance from you is happiness,
And through it among all people he has prided himself.

45. Your approval of him is an end beyond which
There is only the approval of God, who originated man.

46. So thank God for His bounty upon you, for
Glorified is He who ensures abundance for the grateful.

47. And upon you is the spirit of God’s greeting
That yearns toward you along with the roots and seeds.
