1. If I were given a chance to meet you,
I would not take the lightning of clouds as a messenger.

2. If my wishes were to be accepted,
I would not confide my complaints to morning drizzles and clouds.

3. But the gentle breeze, whenever it blew,
Increased the passion of the lover.

4. And at the meeting place of souls was a lovely palm tree
That bowed to it inclined at sunset.

5. My pledge to it let down its shadows upon me
So I let down a shadow to the youth shaded.

6. The deer grazed around me, companions,
And I enjoyed among them, settled and camped.

7. And I polished for the beauty the page of my love
When I made eloquent the eyebrows that were plucked.

8. Then I moved on while I indulged in love
A teaser who intoxicates and captivates hearts.

9. How much saltiness is in it for the passionate lover!
It left the heart of its lover confused and perplexed.

10. Her eyes did not show me the wisdom of Babylon
Unless I took her words lovingly and accepted.

11. And my neck showed its love when I visited it
Like the embroidery on the edge of the gown that sways.

12. The eye denied recognizing it except for a glimpse
By which it knew its traces fanciful.

13. And if the eyelids happened upon an amorous glance,
Tears dripped down from its eyelids unchecked.

14. Who will help beautiful patience? It has
After the loved ones set out on a journey.

15. How can I adorn myself after them when I am the one
Who forgot Qays in love and Jamil?

16. Who will excuse me while my heart is the first to blame
Regarding whom an unfair critic became rancorous?

17. I followed the nation of youth in the religion of love
Who did not change their love or alter it.

18. O wellspring around which our hearts circled,
If not for attaining wishes, tears would not flow.

19. What harm if his thick tresses dripped with dew,
Even if he spent the night wilting the agony of the lover?

20. How much have I complained in speech and in meaning
To a heart, however much love has made it sick!

21. I wronged the doe of the valley in enchantment
And the bold mountain goat heading uphill.

22. And I walked in the folds of the soft breeze perhaps
I may settle around carnelian pebbles.

23. This is while my passion is like my passion when
I sensed the caravan of Hijaz leaving.

24. They led the she-camels then set out successively
A regiment followed another in the wilderness.

25. Like the slender ostriches that are let loose
To roam the expanse of the desert mile after mile.

26. Stumbling over the sand as if
Excessive fatigue made them stumble.

27. If the flag of the path was obscured to them,
They made yearning for the messenger their guide.

28. O you who are leaving, what their caravan carries
Are only the hearts of lovers burdened.

29. I implore you by the bond of affection between us
A pledge that has always been kept responsibly between us.

30. Wherever you reach, it is better than stepping on land
That you expand that land with kissing.

31. Oh, I wish I knew! Will I marry on a night
Where I smell around me mud and floods?

32. Or will you show me one day violent waters
Where my eyelids are laden with sleepiness and burdens?

33. And I arrive at the dwelling place of the Prophet to camp
And lodge as a guest in the Holy House.

34. By the stations of revelation that have been ennobled
Its flags bordered by the revelation face to face.

35. By the sanctuaries of faith and religion that
Gabriel prayed in their courtyards.

36. And the emigrant of the true religion and his people
Where safety settled for him as a newcomer.

37. The house of the Prophet and the crescent moon whose
Beginning did not part from perfection.

38. How excellent are those landmarks and open plains!
How excellent are those rising sand dunes!

39. Where the prophecy rose with its horizons
And a face of the Manifest Truth, beautiful.

40. Where the message, its rules were detailed
To explain the prohibited and the permissible.

41. Where the Law came down with its pillars
So the definitive supports interpretation.

42. Where is guidance, religion and truth which
Obliterated misguidance and eliminated confusion.

43. Where is the tomb containing the most honorable messenger
And most majestic of God's creations, generation after generation

44. Indeed, God chose it as a station for Him
And chose him as the Messenger to the worlds.

45. May God have mercy on the worlds by sending him among them
And prefer his race with favor.

46. By his prayer the clouds dispersed and before him
Bended, and the clouds submitted to him humbly.

47. How often has the sun been returned to him
While its clouds had shaded him for a long time.

48. Why does existence not obey him when by his light
It has become dependent in its creation?

49. O gem of existence, O flag of guidance
The verses of your grace were recited rhythmically.

50. Without you, existence would have no truth
And the door to its being would be locked.

51. Without you, the planets' flowers would not bloom
Like flowers that do not know withering.

52. Without you, the sky would not shine its suns
And the darkness of its gloom would be veiled.

53. Without you, God would not be worshiped and would not
Become inhabited in its corners inhabited.

54. O mercy of God whose niceties
Dragged for acceptance glory and honor.

55. O proof of God whose evidence
Was never truthfully doubted.

56. How many signs for you that shone their light
And clarified the night of misguidance and its confusion!

57. You clarified them like the sun at its rising
And their comprehension outwitted minds.

58. And you came with the Wise Remembrance, explaining
Its verses articulated in detail.

59. The One who revealed the Qur’an, the Torah and the Bible glorified you
So the eloquent one who seeks your praise struggles until his sword of speech is broken.

60. O intercessor of the honorable messengers, and in you
They hope for acceptance on the Day of Judgment.

61. Be gentle with whom the grip of destiny has taken control
So he became restrained by the shackles of his sins.

62. Oh what regret that I wasted my life in passion
While repenting of it has been long delayed!

63. And I raced recklessly in the expanse of idle work
Until the youthful vigor bent like a withering palm tree.

64. And I stumbled seeking triumph foolishly
But I found you as relief for the stumbler.

65. O elite of God, trusted with His revelation
From an honest mother worthy of care.

66. By God, I have no solace and comfort
Except your satisfaction and hoped-for pardon.

67. If I did not prepare useful provisions,
I prepared the love of you as an accepted intercessor.

68. May God send blessings upon you whenever a riding caravan traveled
And the wilderness plateau became populated.

69. And empower the one who assumed responsibility for His servants
So He granted them His continuous benevolence.

70. And establish the obligatory jihad with determination
Leaving in the hearts of enemies turmoil.

71. By God, I do not know in the heat of battle whether
It is its swords or its determination that is sharpened.

72. A king whose pledged hand the existence kissed
So the sea became fresh and the meadows are indeed adorned at night.

73. Or the chosen people complained and they were carried
So he called it with no fear of the raging ignorant.

74. From a Yemeni Najdi palm grove
And it branched out high and took roots.

75. So if you ask the books to convey a merit
You will not find except its pride being conveyed.

76. O King whose days
Clarified the faces of eras in submission.

77. By God, the traces of your guidance to us
Are only stars that did not know setting.

78. Your sword in battle did not know assembly
So wonder at it for having perfected analysis.

79. How many images of you are in the openings and chapters
That are illuminated and recited morning and evening!

80. No caravan of winds passed by fragrantly
Except to carry its melodious mention.

81. As if the surface of lightning is your sword shining from
The sheath of the cloud, bare and slick.

82. How many lands of disbelief whose church bells
You have replaced with declarations of God’s oneness and praise!

83. The vanguard of armies confirmed and made
What was previously in them carried.

84. They broke the statues of the crucifix and exemplified
Whoever pledged allegiance to it horrifically.

85. When you besieged it and its destruction came near,
You brought out its pampered noble ones disgraced.

86. Tears flow and do not soothe its torment
As one bound is weeping there, killed.

87. The King’s right hand cast upon the enemies
Fury, revered of sharp dual edges.

88. Your sword did not accept to be adorned with jewels
Until it adorned the foreheads of captives untied.

89. Your resolve did not accept the small from the pious
Until it accomplished good deeds in droves.

90. You established the birth of the Prophet in a night
In which you clarified the path of jihad.

91. Where the white domes adorned the open plains
With flowers whose garden never wilted.

92. And the flames’ sources ignite around it
So its torches illuminate plains and plateaus.

93. And the horizon above you is an embroidered dome
Stretching over you its edges unraveled.

94. And the moon threw to you its full moon and stars
Gifting you a crown and wreath from it.

95. Where the regiments surge in waves
And the steeds flow in them in currents.

96. Teeming with waves of iron, and sometimes
The space was narrow so they did not find an outlet.

97. Declarations of God’s oneness resonate in its sides
So the neighing of the thoroughbreds repeats it as an echo.

98. Bearing the heroes, all girding up
Not gaining the thicknesses of armor and spears.

99. Lions, if war erupted, who enter
From the polished Indian sword blades.

100. If they flared up on the day of war their coats of mail
They dragged from the brocade what is poured forth of trails.

101. Or if they shortened their spears on the day of thrusting
They connected the farthest spots with what is long.

102. O night whose reward my hands attained
And I stayed up in it enveloped in satisfaction.

103. By God, even if my youth were to be compensated
I would not be pleased with it as an alternative.

104. O helper of Islam, O King of the Highness
May God grant you abundant reward.

105. Prepare your armies for jihad, successful
And sufficient for you is your Lord as Sufficer and Guarantor.

106. And drive back the raids in the land of enemies
And God suffices you as a helper and trustee.

107. And to you from the thick of jihad comes a stranger
Who came to honor you with beautiful praise.

108. I have prolonged but I was right, and my habit
Is to adorn praise in poetry prolonged.

109. May your victory, whenever you request it
For the important matter of your religion, remain connected.

110. And God send blessings and peace upon our liege Muhammad
And upon his family and companions altogether.
