1. Wandering in the night not knowing the towns
Bearing heavy burdens, she shows patience
١. وَسائِرَة في اللَيلِ لا تَعرِفُ الكَرى
تُحَمَّلُ أَعباءً ثِقالاً فَتَصبِرُ
2. She was allowed harsh treatment, so she endured
Her clothes are rented, not failing her
٢. أُتيحَ لَها عَلجٌ عَنيفٌ فَبَزَّها
مَلابِسَها مُستَأجَرٌ لا يُقَصِّرُ
3. He dressed her in a splendid garment of calico
She has no mind to thank and appreciate
٣. وَأَلبَسَها ثَوباً مِنَ الوَشيِ رائِعاً
وَلَيسَ لَها عَقلٌ فَتُثني وَتَشكُرُ
4. Whoever enjoys her femininity feminizes her name
And whoever enjoys masculinity masculinizes it
٤. فَمَن سَرَّهُ تَأنيثُها أَنَّثَ اِسمَها
وَمَن سَرَّهُ التَذكيرُ فَهوَ مُذَكّرُ
