وحديث عهد بالفطام كأنما

1. With the freshness of one just weaned, as though
Molded of white pearl.

١. وَحَديثِ عَهدٍ بِالفِطامِ كَأَنَّما
قَد صيغَ مِن صَدفِيةٍ بَيضاءِ

2. Glory to Him who kindled by his cheek's surface
A fire whose fuel is in the water.

٢. سُبحانَ مَن أَذكى بِصَفحَةِ خَدِّهِ
ناراً يُؤَجَّجُ وَقدُها في ماءِ

3. And illuminated the glow of his forehead, shining
In a night of his hair, dark and black.

٣. وَأَنارَ ضَوءَ جَبينِهِ مُتَوَضِّحاً
في لَيلَةٍ مِن شَعرِهِ لَيلاءِ

4. He would put to shame the like of perfect moons, adorned
Beneath a red carnelian.

٤. يَفتَرُّ عَن مِثلِ الجُمانِ مُؤَشَّرٍ
قَد صينَ تَحتَ عَقيقَةٍ حَمراءِ

5. The narrowed glances make fun of her sorcery
And her languor with the soft dark eyes.

٥. وَمُضَيَّقُ الأَلحاظِ يَهزَأُ سِحرُها
وَفُتورُها بِالمُقلَةِ النَجلاءِ

6. As if his clothes in their motions
Are rays upon a brown bow.

٦. وَكَأَنَّما بُرداهُ في خَطراتِهِ
سُنّا عَلى يَزينَةٍ سَمراءِ

7. Never have I seen or heard the like of her,
A star from which a full moon is born.

٧. ما إِن رَأَيتُ وَلا سَمِعتُ بِمِثلِها
نَجمٌ تَوَلَّدَ مِنهُ بَدرُ سَماءِ
