1. The fool thought I forgot, never!
The passion of his love settled in my heart.

2. I was dazed with him, and cared not for myself,
Neither clothes nor bedding did I want.

3. And I wore the finest spun garment,
And my wings became a dwelling place.

4. Reason desires to return my heart from its passion,
But how can it return when it has become its home?

5. Love's arrow pierced my heart,
Wounding it, while the arrow of patience was shattered.

6. How wondrous! Whenever his features crossed my mind,
They left me in awe and wonder.

7. For his love I lived as one dead,
And be amazed - how did the dead live?

8. So leave me, and the gazelles graze freely,
While I cloak myself in fabric.

9. My fire continues blazing,
While my tears water the thirsty.

10. He shuns me, settling in Damascus,
While his memory resides in Aleppo.

11. How many deceitful ones feigned affection,
While their hearts were filled with hatred!

12. I say to him whom God has led astray -
With your deception, only rot awaits you.

13. Stop, O traitor, for you have betrayed my covenant,
And do not feel safe, for God goes on.

14. You have plainly broken your solemn oath,
And your Master is not unaware - never!

15. You have split my heart without a companion to console me,
Deceiving me with your wickedness.

16. You have revealed your corrupt nature through worldliness,
Yet even the lion scorns the barking dog.

17. Wait, soon the nights will bring you regret,
And you will wake up, your foul mind muddled.

18. You are an arrogant fool who imagines
Herself a ram, though dyed like sheep.

19. God has made time roll on, exceeding
Any means to describe your wicked plotting.

20. The black forests have found rest
From the lies the dogs spread, living like reptiles.

21. And its rabble have taken refuge in forts,
While fierce nights dwell in nests.

22. They will obtain no help when calamities befall,
Stretching out their hands pitifully.

23. Haughtiness and foolishness made them
Take insulting the noble as livelihood.

24. In ignorance they claimed knowledge, and how many
Noses have tasted the thorns from their thickets!

25. So will the dead ever, O Da'ad,
Taste delight when the living are revived?

26. And will the washed turn upon the filthy rabble,
And take away what their winds have spread?

27. I am amazed at time, which once was
When the son of the esteemed feared to harm.

28. We have left all to the Creator, openly,
He who sees secrets, though we are dust.
