1. To Allah I complain of what has afflicted my heart
The day we parted from the gazelle of the valley

2. My heart was pierced by an arrow amidst archers
It bled in torrents and darkened my complexion

3. The doe fell in love with him, so his separation tore us apart
In the darkness of night tears flow between my eyes as I slumber

4. He forgot his vows and violated the laws of loyalty
Verily, betrayal is the ways of the wicked

5. And there were times when I rode as his companion
My steed delighted me and the neighing of a long-maned horse exhilarated me

6. I tore the anklets of maidens in a daring raid
Startling the dwellers of towns and countrysides

7. And brought back their disheveled tresses that swayed
In the passion of battle, raid and pursuit

8. And the enemy's face dripped in the battlefield
Terrified, amidst the striking swords of warriors

9. As the deep-chested mares trampled the heads of foes around me
Having lined up in ranks of steeds

10. Yet there, pacts were violated and I did not uphold
The rights of loving, weak companions

11. Do not wonder, oh Hindi, that I repelled intimacy
For I am the prey of hunters

12. My Master, Honored Al-Din, of the lineage
That takes pride in the blossoms of the Prophet's descendants

13. The honored brows prostrated in reverence
On the day of pride, to my grandfather Al-Sajjad

14. So virtue adorns me, inherited from my forefathers
And the traits of nobility in children

15. To Al-Murtadha, the stallion of men, I ascended
With a lineage, lofty, sublime

16. The spears are organized into rows, their source
Ancestral glories through forefathers

17. The mongrel dog of the market denied my virtues
Though the sun shines clearly in every land

18. And dawn, as it appears, he denied its radiance
Blinded from seeing, devoid of insight

19. While I am the son of the glorified Ahmad
Succor of the eminent, lofty, outstanding

20. The exemplar of the greatest, Haydar
Lion of combat, marked by spears

21. My father, Abu Al-Barakat, a towering forest
Wherein the party of truth has the most fertile valley

22. A people, by God's life, of pure intent
Dignity of the Companions, perplexing opponents

23. Seeking martyrdom in the path of the Divine
Not for pomp or corruption

24. Of afflictions, so many afflictions
Making ignorant blacks like masters

25. Oh you who think ill of me, be patient, for surely
The wine of malice has clouded your mind

26. The nobility of your status is that you are led
By lies uttered by a rebellious tongue

27. And I carry the traits of these noble souls
So be perceptive, for God is watching

28. And look to those who hoarded wealth through deceit
Would they have gathered it if they understood the blood of servants?

29. They robbed people of life, and ascended through it
Seeking superiority over the virtuous and critics

30. While people were unaware, and they poisoned them
Their hands tied around their livers

31. They rebelled against the clear religion, warring
Against its precepts in ignorance and obstinacy

32. Woe to a time whose eyes did not distinguish
Between the white and the black

33. And to you, O beloved, for you have trod
The nadir, O summit of mountains

34. You vie with me for glory, erring, not taking
The path of glorious noblemen

35. While I am a man whose dignity is inherent
Like the spirit's bond with the body

36. Go easy on yourself, for the impassioned prisoner
Of love is another, while my glory dominates my desire

37. The traits of Abu Al-Hasan adorned his progeny
With extended glory

38. While we are from him, a people whose ancestry
Begot only the noble, after the noble

39. They dispelled the darkness when they shone in it
As if they had converged by appointment

40. And out of loyalty I repeat my complaint to you
For it is sweet to reiterate

41. Ask love about my dwelling for your sake, and spare me
With the life of your eye, kindness of one who tends the ill
