1. Oh, the ravages of her deadly glances,
And the swaying of her graceful hips,

2. With cheeks like the full moon shining at night,
And a brow like the crescent moon.

3. With a figure like a gazelle when it turns,
Twisting and winding like a fawn.

4. With eyes like a dewy narcissus lowered,
Dimming my distressed heart.

5. The dimples on her cheeks collect,
And the saliva on her lips flows smooth as pearls.

6. With braids like chains above her temple,
Alas for the snares of her tresses!

7. With magic utterances that enchant,
Enticing my soul to adore her.

8. But her eyes turn away though I pine,
Flashing like lightning through the dark.

9. With threats that weaken my resolve,
Till my body becomes like a specter.

10. With promises that stretch on and on,
Preoccupying my thoughts.

11. With passion and fevered love
Raging within like a fire stoked.

12. With tears pouring like a torrent,
Revealing my hidden state.

13. I became sleepless, ceaselessly seeking her,
Wasting away in torment for her.

14. With a hand tyrannizing in love,
And cares lasting for ages.

15. With companions made desolate by my absence,
Her charm is a lofty spear.

16. To approach, though distance is harder,
And to meet, though parting is crueller.

17. Stillness and yearning, torment and rapture,
Turmoil and drunkenness and madness.

18. Rising with passion, sitting with grief,
Battling desires and arguing.

19. While she in her glory and power supreme
Marvels at her own charm and height.

20. Upon her throne of beauty guarded
By armies of hopes.

21. And reckons slaying her lovers unjustly
As permitted in the path of love.

22. To slay the lover pridefully
Is the strangest state.

23. My endurance is gone, I cannot
Show patience, and that is the trait of the wretched.

24. I am her patience, and far be it from me
To cease praising her, though blame me the censorious!

25. Such is the custom of the lover, when
A heart inclines, it will not turn away.

26. And sees patience on his path a duty,
Incumbent in any case.

27. My pleasure is my humiliation by her,
My devotion and bewilderment toward her alone.

28. How useless are my days spent beside her,
And my nights passing by her gates.

29. She is a soul, and a soul like mine,
Lost in passion for her, is of her kind.

30. Neglecting all others, even
Kith, kin and family.

31. She fought me with her beauty and cast me down
When she rebelled and sundered my limbs.

32. She invaded me with a glance I followed
On the path of love, with armies of beauty.

33. I have no defenses to guard my heart
Save my love for the Prophet and his kin!
