1. The glorious caravan long held my allegiance,
While fate bound me, and I could not break free.

2. I wept for beloved faces and their charms,
While the misery of absence tore the joys of youth.

3. They journeyed on and halted, and fate was their final abode,
They struck camp in the meadow of my soul.

4. Even letters between us I severed,
Yet sorrows did not cease, my yearning remained.

5. I suffer sleepless nights in vigilant insomnia,
As sighs fill my limbs to their tips.

6. By the rain of bounty and life he was revived,
His life revived by the finest greetings.

7. In lovers' hearts he has dwellings,
Where his being settled and found rest.

8. Valiant youths guard him from all harm
So that if lions approach they are subdued.

9. Much did my eyes weep for them,
Though the balanced say I weep in excess.

10. News of them consoles me when brought
By a truthful friend, thus curing my illness.

11. My companion speaks of them and my soul is calmed
When that discourse invites tranquility.

12. The meaning of remembering them in my hearing
Brings intoxication to my senses like draught upon draught.

13. Excellence be to the Living if we hurl at graves
Stones, by Allah wholesomely remembering loved ones.

14. Passion, ardour, separation and rejection
Scorched us with fires of flaming yearning.

15. We have no solace from those fevered ones
Except remembering them, and remembrance is no solace.

16. It stirs our passions and rouses determination,
And revives hopes that were dead.

17. My excuse, if their memory makes my heart
Pulsate like the enamoured gazelle and doe,

18. Is that times I stand while passion rages,
Hurling endless sparks.

19. Death beckons you while the heart pounds,
The soul finds no comfort in coat or armour.

20. I burst through ranks of the raging, clashing
With heroes, or clashing with death.

21. My gaze then turns only to the Living,
And my ambition seeks only the beloved.

22. For my loved ones I uphold bonds of affection
Despite the dark calamities that gather.

23. I wonder at those who break covenants, destroying
The pillars of love, dashing hopes.

24. Those vilified in life and death proceed,
Disgraced among the virtuous of every faith.

25. The noble stand firm in loyalty
Remaining noble, heedless of disaster.

26. I am of those whose exalted virtues
Shone despite the gloom of tragedy.

27. They safeguarded the reins of honour with zeal,
Rising above awe-inspiring tribulations.

28. Of the Hashemites, the torrential downpours, lords
Who command veneration amongst all peoples.

29. Of the Fatimids, the suns that shone
With the brilliance of revelation in zodiacal signs.

30. Of the Ja'faris, the guiding stars, youths
Of highest renown above all others.

31. Of the Kazimis, the luminous ones of guidance,
Nobles of this religion, epitomes of chivalry.

32. Of the Ahmadis whose lineage
Is a lofty edifice in the House of Truth.

33. Noble souls named Son of Rafai in eminence,
Whose nobility the Healing spread like virtues.

34. My mother bore me an offshoot
Of Khalid, God's Sword, guardian of his clan.

35. I stood resolute with a gallant soul
And abundant knowledge of sublime worth.

36. I do not exceed God's blessing, remembering
Only my lineage, not pretexts for boasting.

37. I speak the truth by my Creator's grace,
Though my words fall short of the blessing I received.

38. If enviers deny my virtues,
The elite of every tribe recognize them.

39. O you stern-faced riders of steeds and travelers, glory
Remains, its melody succeeding melodies.

40. Mention, and let our abode ring with loved ones,
Their excellence reaching every conclusion.

41. And say to my swooning heart after them:
We recalled the beloved, so be patient and stand firm.
