1. I'm amazed my heart doesn't shatter
Though assailed by armies of sorrow, God is greatest

2. I've lost those I was so used to
And I'm left, confused, reflecting alone

3. I watch the stars in the sky's expanse
As my heart struggles, fading and flaring

4. Tomorrow it may fall prey
To misfortunes whose flood pours rain

5. And my tears carved paths
Red like my burning heart's blood

6. Whenever sorrows seek out others through me
You're my excuse if preoccupied on my journey

7. What greater catastrophe than losing supporters?
None but God can bring victory

8. So I'll bear the sorrows - were they embodied
As wandering mountains, still I'd be greater

9. And if you touch the hems of this age
From it you'll see wonders dripping

10. A vile nation advances
Whose disgrace is plain to see

11. It bowed to the Blacks' injustice
While another, by my life, is more wretched

12. Bought and sold, its loyalty held ransom
And it once held sway when time was generous

13. They know not honor, so expect no honor from them
The noble consider their ways strange

14. My soul, cease blaming time and its people
The corrupt remain so though excused

15. You wish for praise from the ignoble
Can they show anything but their hidden natures?

16. Take patience as armor, reliance as guard
And leave their twisted ways to their twistedness

17. Your mighty Protector is enough
Giving aid, beyond the seen or fated

18. How often, my soul, have times defeated patience
Who sees grace in hardship lasts long

19. God has set in patience wondrous subtleties
To be recited and recounted and remembered

20. O Lord, the pains of fate have wearied
My heart, stoking fires in its depths

21. I've been patient with the patience of the noble
My pride loftier than the moon's crescent horns

22. I've laughed off years of severity and against
My heart are memories of loved ones

23. Neither my resilience nor longing avails me
No whisper in my heart nurtured

24. Oh nights, how long you've stretched your darkness
While around me sleeps, I stay awake

25. The nights forget my elegance and grace
I sit not forgetting, not remembering

26. Battling confusion, my thoughts like monsters
And who, by God, struggles like me?

27. Can my mind be clear, my heart soothed
When I burn for the Mount of Jacob?

28. I have, after the loved ones, a promised
Return, with resolve and purpose fulfilled

29. With times past it converses
And from it pour memories into my heart

30. So I compose poetry of pure pearls
Like the tears scattering down my cheek

31. And I recount the noble lineage of love
While the hounds of hatred clamor wickedly

32. The righteous generation has gone
And I see no people I'd choose over another

33. I don't blame people randomly
But few give thanks for blessings

34. The best that life brings is one
Safe in faith, of pure heart

35. They have passed, disappointing my loyalty
No water flows, no plains bloom

36. Even friends may spurn you - who then
Forgives and pardons when brothers sin?

37. How many have cut the ties of love for a coin
Pleased with it though it be worth less

38. My friend, how many nights I've clove in two
With resolve, though death's waves crash

39. I've torn the shackles of darkness standing firm
My pride loftier than the horizon's moon

40. I've not betrayed, by God, my friend
Nor inclined if he's unchanged and betrays

41. O Lord, his duplicity fooled me
Though my vision unveils and obscures

42. I fooled him into thinking I was deceived
To drink of my sap and not belittle the small

43. My soul prefers its innocence to his failings
And who, by the honor of glory, prefers thus?

44. My ambition craves only one obsession
God's reckoning, reminding me of the morrow

45. Half of my fifty years are gone
A stranger, though with the dawn my affair glows

46. Jealous of my glory, they envied and increase
Their stubbornness, lies, as jealous ones do

47. Ignorant, they exceed in vilifying me
The blamable expose their defects

48. I turn away, not for lack of resolve
But to change what the Protector decrees

49. Not even the ignorant obscure my virtues
My honor blossoms in the brow of dawn

50. Through the house of Al-Rifai Al-Husseini my light shines
Brighter than the midday sun's rays

51. Among the breasts of the proud house of Fatima
My pattern gleams, green like glory's banner

52. Though I remain obscured, I triumph over nobles
For sometimes the sun's beauty veils in darkness

53. I care not if time treats me unjustly
All flesh dies and is buried

54. All bear the stamp of truth
The sincere see no change

55. Yes, strangers hoard wealth I don't possess
Not enough for a bushel in my grasp

56. The age slept, so they strut arrogantly
While God's eye looks with justice

57. A cry will come and seize them from beyond
At which the heedless laugh, all revealed

58. It does not harm me to lack wealth
When God grants me honor and pride

59. Was Jesus a merchant, or John, Moses, the Prophet?
Their glory continues loftier and greater

60. The guiding stars knew poverty and detachment
While their image rises and grows

61. Indeed, the prophets are my exemplars
Not Pharaoh's mansion which he built

62. By the life of nights, sentry of mysteries!
We thrive through hidden grace, belittled

63. Passing in their cycles, now progressing, now delaying
With the fate they bring, and who evades fate?

64. Leave me be, don't fantasize or pretend
None see glory apart from its means

65. Greatness contests me through setbacks
When goals are lesser, they shrink and grow

66. Let it be, I've neither mother nor father
Yet the destitute bow before the arrogant

67. Heavy am I among nobles in counsel
Light when fools rise drunkenly

68. And saying to me, set down your concerns, rest
When wonders pour from the celestial spheres

69. I say: Yes. Each moment God unfolds
Subtleties beyond count, beyond limit

70. The deluded cover them, though truth is manifest
While the humble servant thanks and is given victory
