1. Bring, O lightning of yearning, your news,
And imprint your traces in our hearts,

2. And shine through the souls of a people,
All of whom say, "Would that I were your neighbor!"

3. You, O lightning of yearning, in you is a secret,
How you have folded many secrets within our secrets.

4. You flash in the celestial constellations, but
We have made each of our hearts your abode.

5. You told of the light of the one for whom we yearn,
Since his lights have lent radiance to your lights.

6. So speak, by God, O fluttering lightning, about him -
Some of the signs of the Exalted God, your minarets.

7. And describe for us, O horseman of the desert, the mounts,
Be gentle, and recite poetry for us.

8. Describe love for the lovers, and spread
Ecstasy, passion, and pour your fire upon them.

9. Lead their thoughts to the Living, the Beloved,
Exalted and Blessed is He beyond likeness.

10. Gather beauty and charm in a poem,
And through it, by God, ascend and be blessed.

11. O heart of a lover, melt with passion there,
Then teach the people of desire your ways.
