And my heart for ardour created

11. Time passed and my longing became a habit
So the eye sheds tears and the heart pounds

12. Addiction, though hard, made desire subside
So leave off displaying the charms of the beloved

13. There was in estrangement what shakes passion
And the pillars of glory stand firm in their place

14. And a soul grows noble when not debased
By love, were one to recover from desire's sting

15. Yet I refuse that my pact should see
Inconstancy, smooth and slippery in it

16. And we clear its murmuring spring after purity
And its roses spread open and plucked

17. If the days returned to me in their length
And I touched those cheeks where perfume breathed

18. And I stood among the dancers in the evening
Or took me to them and the slanderers on the way

19. I would hint not at love with my sigh
Though it burn my scorched heart

20. And sadden the travelers with my groan
And disturb them with the camel driver's song
