1. Submit to your Lord, do not be wary,
And be aware of the secrets of appearances,

2. For everything has an inner essence,
Precise in meaning and outward in form.

3. He arranged the affairs as He saw fit,
With His knowledge arranging the jewels.

4. This one is a pious believer,
With paradise spread wide, and that one an infidel.

5. And a youth realized guidance,
While a youth wanders lost in the night of doubt.

6. And one is wrecked by his ruin,
While another is present in the poverty of asceticism.

7. This one is deceived by passions,
And that one deluded by lineages.

8. Yet all are on the sea of trials,
Inevitably bound for utter annihilation.

9. The curtains were lowered on these appearances,
By the hand of the Unseen.

10. So to dust, the likes and counterparts
Became equal, noble and base.

11. The treasure of existence is sealed,
And reason falls short of its essence.

12. In a scroll of counted days,
Great sins and small are recorded.

13. And conditions shift in it,
Visible to every two eyes.

14. Rolled up in the millstones of fate,
Both the mighty and weak.

15. Go as you wish in your delusion, O defiant one,
For a day will come that you will fall, even if you flew like a bird.

16. And you will return from the highest minarets,
To the low ground of graves.

17. You, my Lord, are present, so remember,
For one who remembers will not be disappointed.

18. And give thanks, that you may be raised up thanking,
Good in your sources and destinations.
