1. How often you send the signs of estrangement
Since losing you and losing life are equal

2. Unite my wings with reunion, for it is strange
To break ties of kindness with intimates

3. I envy that you tread
Ways other than those of youth in affection

4. And I fear the bitterness of your blame, as I never feared
The heights of war's tumults

5. I have not sinned, so I beseech you, but in me
Is a yearning to beseech you, though guilty

6. Consider me a guilty one, am I not your brother?
Why not forgive the guilty brother?

7. Cover with the trains of pardon, from you
Pages of a guilty one regretful and repentant

8. And perhaps the arbiter disliked punishment
So he may win the delight of forgiveness

9. It was not auspicious when you left me
In the days of my return, the branches were green

10. If not for separation, I would not have parted, and if
The star of love had not fallen, I would not be mad

11. With your distance, I hated the abode of my dignity
And with your nearness, I loved the abode of my disgrace

12. So renew with me your favors
For renewal is the polish of favor

13. And realize that I have been afflicted with a people
Who seek to feel me out for weakness

14. Until I forget from delight
That once I was of the sorrowful

15. And after despair my hopes return anew
For every dawn of purpose and help

16. And after avoiding the passions of youth
The winking of lightning and trysts of gazelles attract me

17. Bless the generous noble ones
Honor has bowed to them in humility

18. The advisers whose knowledge has taught the king
That advice is the ornament of faith

19. And those who tread the paths of guidance
Openly and secretly in love of Muhammad's family

20. So praising them is reason to attain loftiness
And loyalty to them is protection from sins
