1. If it were but a wound, it would have healed
But the stabs kept coming endlessly

2. You tried not to give in, but you couldn't
So you let yourself get lost, and it was your ruin

3. Is it because what comes after death terrifies you
That you decided not to fight anymore?

4. If you fear the questions of the grave, then live for them
Glorified is He, the Most High

5. It is the nature of afflictions when they attack a man
To leave behind in his courtyard men

6. And so too calamities, when they pelt you with their fire
Leave you with no solution or way out

7. It is enough to hold on with the promises of deceivers
And cling to the ropes of gossip and words

8. Fear staying alive, not death, for after it
You will not be wronged by Him even an atom's weight

9. You gave up on dreams when you saw
The possibilities were impossible

10. You will never reach the sun you hoped for
Until you cut through the terrors before it

11. Every day a laugh leaves you
Until you became a model of departure

12. Yet despite this you draw ever closer
To one who adds to your passion only neglect!

13. You did not smile at death out of love
For one who had tortured you with aloofness and coyness

14. A world you try for, while others spurn it
And dishonor it, while you revere it!

15. Were it not for the One who revived your patience with His Spirit
You would now be in a worse state

16. A heart the size of a handful, or rather part of it
By God, how could it carry mountains?

17. O reproacher of my eyes for their abundant tears
I did not weep out of joy, nor for ruins

18. I cry over a lifetime that aged our faces
While our hearts inside remain those of children

19. I have received from life and its people
That which left me unable to say a word

20. Hell has a daughter in whose depths we live
She may be no less vicious than her mother!

21. O Lord, with kindness you accustomed me
If not for Your care I would have tasted affliction

22. So when death became my wish
And the grip of despair intensified in me, and it went on

23. And death, which I had always hoped for
As a refuge from distress, turned away from me

24. You sent tranquility into my ribs
And extended to me a rope beyond all others

25. If I was seized by the ill omen of a sin
Then Allah postponed it with forbearance

26. Or if it was a difficult test for the heart
Then Allah is the one who consoled and mended

27. And He is the All-Knowing, so how can you not complain to Him?
And He is the Near, in word and deed

28. Live in awe of Him, and if
Death draws near you, then be hopeful
