1. My tears ask you, for love of you, answer
It matters not if from you there's no reward

2. My eyes, crescents from your shining brow
And in my heart, sparks from love's cord

3. If part of sin with you I share
Yet healing me is in love of you reward

4. And if in your cheeks' apples is delight
Then in their saliva is a draft reward

5. Though love-crazed, raging, I may be
Yet by my eyes' arrows am I marred

6. My tear-tracks speak my passion's heat
As if, my cheek, for them you scripted ward

7. When none can match Ibn Muqla's writing flair
To readers, wonder it doth not accord

8. Down pour my eyes, constricted, gushing
Music enraptures me - not Zainab or Rabab's chord

9. O Turks' bough, no thriving herd
My heart from habitation is in ruins scored

10. Your face is source of salty water
For thirst-fatigued, the herd is mirage fraud

11. When you visit, soul and wealth are light
Above the soil, all is soil-likened hoard

12. May God honor my bond with the beloved and youth
With clouds - as if colored specks in them toward

13. I lost passion when my youth evanesced
Most painful of loss - passion and pubescent horde

14. He would hunt the gazelle, so welcome my place
Strangest of what the gazelles hunted - the raven gourd

15. Had I been of those who with love age graciously
With my tears, my greys would have dyed ward

16. I'm of those whose misguided efforts increased
Until exhausted, from them I recovered toward

17. My God - in beauty of hope, my creed
And time for the hopeful to You to head

18. Show me mercy - in Your pardon, a haven
And aid me - in Your kindness, a cloud widespread

19. And aid the Caliph's son's hands - they are
When honorable deeds from us recoiled toward

20. The hands of Ali, may Allah's grace be upon him
For if their transgressor becomes immoral, a painful reward

21. Mine are lineage, name, and affiliation which
Articulating, more articulation it toward

22. What a house, O Ali, you supremely established
Above the stars' shoulders, domes leant forward

23. Of people in Mecca's valley, their abode
Tents around rocky mounds tousled toward

24. They protected Islam's nucleus, initially and return
An angelic legion from them conferred and recorded ward

25. How often they night-lodged for battles, armed
And returned to companions' circle, rewarded applaud

26. With fiery tongues for them and sturdy steeds
Whenever they invite for supporters, response is toward

27. And pens of justice in seas of fingers they have
Amidst armors' waves - abundant award

28. Al-Farouq's life has gone and they remain
Branches in the kings' homelands - ruin shard

29. So treat them well in lofty comfort
As lightning uncloaks from clouds' facade

30. Its phrases wound-up as pearls - his cloud
Above the edge of barren royal yard

31. It digs up opinion within it and merits
An ambassador beyond the unseen veil's guard

32. Fearful of mighty commotion, deer are wary of it
So insects even do not buzz or shard

33. Would that Yahya be alive now to enjoy
Grace from it - his steeds and horde

34. A confidential writer to kings - esteemed
The dew, to its visitors, has no veil barred

35. If praise sold in life and rewards
Mercury would favor Jupiter, no loss marred

36. Owner of the transcendent flowing pen - as though
Its sword from the blazing light - blades starward

37. Its resource is honey - so if congeniality characterized
And if war characterized - the resources, wounds starred

38. You are feared and hoped for, O compiler of its missives
As if you are a meadow, or as if a forest hard

39. That is how you pray, O son of Virtue
For its kingdom - kings, when harboring doubts, correct reward

40. Unique most high! Am I, the composer, a reciter
to whom you listen?

41. Unique most praiseworthy - like goodness, blame cannot be toward
I'd turn away from hoping for your kindness once

42. So turn away from me - masters and comrades' horde
And let their deprivation make me feel wanting

43. I'd rave to complain of its heat and chilled gourd
And I endured the pain of blindness among the Arabs like him

44. As was said - garments were not worn toward
For even if my life greys and they turn away

45. By your right - I have no door except yours assured
If only you be sweet while life is bitter

46. If only you accept while people are hatred's ward
By your right - save my share being rays in the dawn

47. But my lot with you is only mist and shard
One singing my praise in you - whether errant or night visitor

48. - so his journey and return were pleasant reward
You had me speak creativity out of spite

49. Of people - I gained, frustrated their marred
For poetry is but the enchantress I depict

50. And verse is but the beloved I sheltered toward
It is your prohibition I say to one who said "muzzled"

51. And his steed knelt submissively in both flanks girded
Without you, every starter for it has

52. A stance on the horizon line, composed award
Her ankles surpassed the gazelle’s submission

53. And competed with the sixty - matured ward
So flow, O most generous beloved

54. Upon people - students for you do not dwindle or shard
Congratulating you on years removing finery's veil

55. Of auspiciousness - a coat and loose cloak toward
It has a crescent, battle-ready, like a dagger's limit
