1. Cease talking of blame in my hearing
Where is one who comprehends or one who hears?

2. O you who blame me for beauty - if you
Cannot see, I have not heard you.

3. Do not add more sorrow to my heart
If you do not lose sleep for me, then sleep.

4. I am the one who tells tales of sorrow,
Spilling endlessly in love from my stream (eyes).

5. And amazingly, in love I complain of callousness
From one residing in my ribs’ enclosure.

6. If you wish, O full moon of darkness, if it appears,
Rise up, and if you wish, do not rise.

7. And you, O branches of bending bamboo,
When you bend, prostrate and bow down.

8. I take not an oath by nights of reunion
That they are the source of agonizing sorrow.

9. If my eyes forgot their sleep,
They did not forget Layla of pure traits.

10. And the heedlessness of spies about our union
While we were like the finder in the bed.

11. O my eyelids, in union be calm, and O
My praises of Ibn Hameed rest (be silent)!

12. A sun whose mention in secret is desired, and O
Glance of enemies, withdraw defeated!

13. Firm in opinion but when
Will we outwit an unjust attacker who tricks?

14. The facial veil crowds over his palm,
As perplexity crowds the palm of one lost.

15. If he appeared, you see his enviers
From the scruff of the neck and from one masked.

16. The views of ‘Amr, and the fancy of Hatim
And the sweetness of Qais and the intelligence of Al-Asma’i.

17. You drive me mad, O rain, whenever you wish, to
Relate his generous hands, so pour heavily!

18. The one whose righteousness has spread to encompass my grandfather,
While you are in place and in place.

19. His wealth has become without guard in the morning,
So if the robber transgressed he would not be punished.

20. His bounties gush and with his adversities
From swirling freely and from shaking.

21. Gentleness which awe has encompassed
Like the sword having elegance and edge.

22. And lofty resolve exerted
What Lord reared it in glory unharmed!

23. If it befriended the new crescent,
It would not be content with worn-out sandals’ straps.

24. And it shows tenderness to one destitute
Like a breast’s tenderness towards one suckling.

25. Nor does his generosity weary, having wealth,
The sea’s generosity in the overflowed stream.

26. Smell his superiority and speech and look
Towards the mid-morning clouds and heated mirage.

27. Verse and prose in the minds of people
Like wine or like magic or stronger.

28. No wonder if Shamsiyya wine intoxicates,
An affliction issuing from a shining moon.

29. Possessing a pen harvesting riches and craft,
From whose nectar they partake or named witness.

30. Desire draws from it rightly
And an army takes refuge in its sanctuary.

31. What base opponent sought his war
Out of regret to the years that did not ring his door?

32. O preceder of people to the most high glory,
From every persistent besieger and pasture.

33. As if he walks in confused land
While you walk in a land brightly lit.

34. You take pride in convincing proofs,
Victorious in purpose and reference.

35. And the well-formed rock stretches its hand out to him
With the most generous condition and strongest.

36. And delight, stay, and listen to the meanings of praise
Over the inadequacy of creation and enjoy yourself!

37. Your great feats went beyond any describer
Until the praiser became like one inflating.

38. And it distanced you from an envious plotter -
Where is happiness from the seat of a lame one?

39. And your sublimity became distanced, high to me in dew,
So I obtained it through creative words.

40. And hope returned your bounties to me,
For you are my sun, and hope makes me wealthy!
