1. She walked like a moon, her hair cascading down her sides
In the slopes of Nuqa, alas for the time of slopes

2. Veiled, with no flaw for blame from critics
Though she sways as she walks, like a spear

3. May God water a night of goodness, in which we met
Nothing was sweeter than that meeting, that reconciliation

4. I bid farewell, drawing out the kiss, oh fear
For my night, lest dawn's lips attack at daybreak

5. And disturb the silk dress around her waist
While the star of night angrily stumbles in its course

6. A time has passed, sweet intimacy and harvest
And a life of secure flocks and wandering

7. No fault in those bygone nights
Except that they passed fleetingly

8. The days of union passed and the lover perished
How strange is fate's wound upon wound

9. Greetings to the innocent life, its provisions
Though there is hardship in it, or toil

10. And a song, like life I love it
Though there is wear in it, and struggle

11. And what distracted me, a blamer advising
Yet deceit is only what I heard of advice

12. His words ring in my ear, yet are cold
While in my heart is burning and ardour

13. The soft-voiced singers sing, forgetting
Necklaces and boughs, ignoring irrigation

14. A gazelle grazed in the meadow of love, my verdant life
The noble deer spurns thyme

15. Between fate and me there were events
When we met, fate proclaimed reconciliation

16. I loved her, whose cheek resembles hers
Can I love her, when grey hair gathers?

17. As if my eyelids, when her tears multiplied
Were clouds of Ibn Fadl Allah, continuous

18. And she said, why is your resolve patient
In seeking faults in life, fault upon fault?

19. I said, I saw patience as the best you can see
When bearing hypocrisy, not fault-finding

20. She said, leave self-reproach and go to
Virtues God granted in times of joy

21. And hasten to the Reviver of Religion, meet traits
Well-trained, who never knew stinginess

22. So I rose, but after dusk had cleared
And returned praised, of pure and generous lineage

23. He shows Ibn Fadl glory and elevation
Yet his deed is innocent of any fault

24. A leader who saw our hopes complaining
Of fate's illnesses, and said to them "Be healthy!"

25. He races to meet the hopes of the weak, with less
Than they wished, and gives at dusk as at dawn

26. Succour for hope, fear, humiliation and sin,
With generosity, security, position and pardon

27. If the praiser describes some of his traits
What can enemy livers do but rip?

28. And if the relater opens his prideful meanings
Leave what the house of Khagan related about conquest

29. And when his praise rose to the heavens
It brought stars, flowers and clouds

30. Clouds of blessings circulating hope
And stars of wisdom indicating success

31. Saad brought good fortune to the kingdom, secrets of bliss
And destroyed the scheming people by slaughter

32. So let the peer thus describe his peer
With the mane of glory, guidance and gift

33. O you who seek distinction through him
Withdraw, you are not of that class

34. O you who smile through his bounty
His help makes the shooting stars easy to pluck

35. Your ransom from one whose appointed time of generosity
Would make Haman unnecessary in the palace

36. You who enriched them with gifts
And went so far it was as if in jest

37. You wore secrecy like the giver's cloak
And never does musk fail to impart fragrance

38. How often the kings tested your good fortune
And advice when good fortune and advice were lost

39. A branch providing shade the world seeks
Witnessing the killing of rebels without wounds

40. For you, O Yahya, give life to those hopeful
And protect from fear, delivering from loss

41. For you, O Yahya, are Ja'far's abundance
Ever replenished, though poured forth

42. So your side remains inclined
Toward the hopeful, while you oppose constant sorrows and distress

43. You surpass the panegyrists in your worth, rank
So their falling short of praising you is the utmost praise

44. I almost ceased to praise, knowing your generosity,
As clouds are not praised for rain on the plains
