1. Convey to the seekers that the nights
Have taken in full the heights

2. Stop at the schools of transmission and intellect
And lament with me over the ruins

3. Asking them, may its echo respond
Where has the answerer to questions gone?

4. Where has the sea of knowledge gone, leaving
Between our eyelids tears to flow

5. Where is that mind from which we inherited
What the ardor holds from inflammation?

6. Where is that research which guards the circulation
With no laxity or celebration?

7. Where is the king of pens on the day of triumph
Like the lofty spears on the day of battle?

8. Conveying to the people from his guidance
The paths of knowledge from the lofty texts

9. And benefiting the harvest from his sweet words
When it was a kind of honey

10. Where are those descriptions diffusing fragrance
For which arts of rhetoric were facile?

11. What a calamity in the barrenness of Islam
For whoever it struck like a piercing blade

12. What a blow upon the sands leaving
For the wilds convulsions like mountains

13. It diminished the delight of life, so no
Effect of diminution remains after perfection

14. And the smile of knowledge has folded and closed
Its eye beyond it and debate

15. And we lined our eyelids with wakefulness until
From it the spheres spanned miles

16. O you who departed and after whom
The seekers disabled journeying

17. You were truly a downpour of generosity but
Among people there is no substitute for you

18. You were a supporter for us in reducing
A life that we distinguished in state

19. So let whoever wants to die and whoever wants to go, for
After it we do not care

20. How much we enjoyed your hands among us
With no describer among them askance

21. How much bravery and chivalry they held
Judging the goals of requests

22. They were like necklaces for maidens
And for atheists like shackles

23. The knowledge of exegesis is lost to us and
The books of jurisprudence confused you with preoccupations

24. And the tears of hadith - sorrow chained them
And the deepest wound cut the heart

25. And I see grammar silent, in it no
Heart of Zayd and heart of Amr with defiance

26. In speech the status of nouns is reduced and the rest of verbs disabled
I wish I knew who to console for handwriting and the state of people desolate like mine

27. Do you think, O son of Ali
That my tears of sorrow are uninterrupted?

28. You reside in the Garden of Bliss
While my heart still burns for you

29. You are Malik's neighbor, and my heart
Is Maliki in passions and tribulations

30. Oh my misguidance after that life
And my deprivation after that bounty

31. Bring my place of sorrow nearer me
The breeze of my torment blew from Jumal

32. If I forgot the virtues, I would not be
Among the people skilled in virtues

33. How can I forget that brightness, and it is to me
Renewed before my eyes and mind

34. How can I devise from speech something elegant
When he who knew my speech is gone?

35. That praise is lost from me, so the duty
Of sorrows judged my heart at sunset

36. And I withdrew from society, and it's no wonder
After the suppressor of withdrawal died

37. What heart has arrowheads of pain and affliction not struck it?
What life's hopes clear up for a person when these are the deaths of hopes?

38. What creature is immune from mortality
As it creeps toward him like a specter?

39. What crown is there for the crescent moon in the horizon
Casting people down with its arrows?

40. Your place of rest has been generous, O Muhammad
Beginning of the messenger by daybreak

41. And greetings to the virtues in your burial
And favor, brightness, and loftiness
