1. With others you have made lovers' tears overflow
Until the day of separation was dyed with color

2. O exiles who have no sin but yearning
That will not cease to ache within our breasts

3. Ask not what our overflowing tears were over
For you, and what your treason was against us

4. As for hope, you never guarded it
Your cycles deceived our hopes that strode

5. How can our story find justice
When our opponent in judgment is our judge?

6. He does us wrong and reaps the fruits of sadness
Far apart are your wrongs and ours

7. Be as you wish, distant or close
If you are not to the world as we have deemed

8. Though your vows betrayed us
We are still true to our word

9. In devotion or its domain
We are the worshippers or we are the adorned

10. Passion ignites only from our breasts
And tears draw only from our springs

11. Red are our tears, yellow our faces
Black our creeds, white our temples

12. If one of a thousand us were a lover
They would think he, not us, mad

13. Since we have been consumed with loving you
Fear of past vows left us not

14. Yet you - God's glory light your way
Spurn the grace of our succession

15. And grant your care to other tribes
Not us, though our efforts for you never flagged

16. Take what fortunes you are granted
Say not my will too high or low

17. One means less than another, though equal
Judge by what you see of the seen and unseen

18. Our concern - should ease from boons cease
May Fortune console us then

19. God bless So-and-so of faith
Who contents the world and religion alike

20. A man who doubles hope's reward for one
Who strives, yet sees himself robbed

21. Wealth's plenty makes Flan forget grammatical rules
As genitive links make words decline

22. We seek tied wealth through his boons
And rhymed words his heights adorn

23. Praise dwells only in his traits
As girls wed by kin against their will

24. What refuge in might or gift of hand
In fate's events to guard and sustain us

25. His gifts almost stayed unmet
For none being poor remained to take them

26. And from gentle, eloquent words
His tempted asker left enchanted

27. O roving-eyed one, stand guard for the nobles' protection
One who needs no introduction or exegesis

28. Not in reverence or honor name we him
For his lofty state makes that needless for us

29. Scent him - you will find brows of light
Though always crowned with success

30. Commanding boons for visitors - thus he remains
Wise of counsel and trusted among them

31. You see his pens in the sea of ease
Like ships laden with hope's benefits

32. As if they, though in words enchanting
Reeds on which leaves sing their tune

33. In a snow-white palm generosity's duty he meets
For his Heights, judgment's zeal focused

34. Stars of thought we recognize through
The fortune of auspiciousness, no guesswork

35. An idea in illuminated words
Its hearer nearly reaps orchards

36. Of eloquent Arabs' views on my poetry and reign
Ibn Abbad remains though they forget us

37. In it the brilliant robes' flowers were dyed
With the finest and dearest gifts the great present

38. Seeing its rhymes and dawning
Your eyes behold sea and noon alike

39. As if its words in hearing's senses
Were stars of shooting burning devils

40. O glorious one who won past and present through him
And successful, near and far

41. If more can be added beyond the limit
