1. Your youthful praise delights though true,
For praise disquiets the virtuous few.

2. O highest judge, O Abu Al-Hasan, you
Who bring renown to roots and branches too.

3. O son of those whom when a praiser spoke,
His words to them were tribute due.

4. O best of those our loyalty evoke,
Free or constrained, whate’er we do.

5. I wish you well, though bounty and grace
Call for the spilling blood anew.

6. Slay them one feast day and leave in place
Glory whose beams the horizons strew,

7. For necks you’ve ransomed, and the foe held back,
While round our necks your gifts accrue.
