1. The grey hair spread over the brisk young man
And appeared, so his deer and does were startled
١. بثّ المشيبُ على الشجيّ بزاته
وبدا فنفّر ظبيه ومهاته
2. Do not die, O inhabitant of the brisk land, of sorrow
And you lived after the complainers their life
٢. لا مت يا لاحي الشجي على الأسى
وحييت بعد الظاعنين حياته
3. Or I lived my life with the aloofness of a master
Who accustomed me to his leaning and whispers
٣. أو عشت عيشي عند جفوةَ سيدٍ
عوّدت منه ميله ولهاته
4. That one's life leaves have withered
While I am the one whose steadfastness broke its plants
٤. هذاك قد خصف الحيا أوراقه
وأنا الذي هشم الجفاءُ نباته
5. And he came to the rock of generosity, so he circled
The pilgrimage of hope, visiting its station
٥. وأتى إلى حجر الكرام فطاف في
حجّ الرجاءِ معاوذا ميقاته
6. They ruled the time as you see its worshippers
And its elite, guides and silent ones
٦. سادوا الزمانَ كما ترى عباده
وسرَاته وهداتهُ وكماته
7. The light of their house still shines
Nor is the guest absent, hearing its verses
٧. لا زال سارٍ نور بيتهمُ ولا
عدِمَ النزيلُ وسامع أبياته
