1. Tears flowing without mercy
And my misery from a deprived beggar

2. And outpouring of weeping abundantly
In passion for the meeting of a beautiful mouth

3. A cheek true in its affection and purifying with it the body
So alas from the intimate friend

4. Would that my poetry is like every enamored
Or is this my destined appointed fortune

5. It wounds the heart yet is fair to the beloved
And fulfills passion though unfeeling

6. My war with the bending of a slender waist has pained me
And cast the heart into excruciating torment

7. Erect in waistline, seated in buttocks my matter
In it is between sitting and standing

8. And his promise is like his waist in coldness
Inwardly saying with nonexistence

9. For me in his cheek’s garden everyday
Tears poured like clouds

10. Do not blame a lover who cried after a cheek
Like the weeping of an infant after a breeze

11. Passion shattered the pillar of my tear and my agony roamed
Between Zamzam and the Black Stone

12. And the eyes have shot me with arrows
With blades poisonous as you can see

13. Between the sight of a mouth and a cheek’s hair
So it is no doubt between the letter seen and meem

14. Oh such arrows of aglance have clad me
In the cold of sickness freed of restrictions

15. And a mouth cool in conversation yet
My liver from it is in hellfire's equality

16. With the cloak of eloquence make my fortune
Like the fortune of names in their declining

17. And the darkness of a cheek's hair greeted the heart
So it became through it in the safe night

18. A cheek with a mole approached it pure musk
So we reckoned it a dot under the letter jeem

19. And a paper of pure wine twofold
Keeping me awake all night with the paper

20. Its basil drew upon water of a cheek
Nearly flowing in brightness and bliss

21. I remembered this and that only
Staying between drink and drunkenness

22. Lord of a night in which I fancied a gazelle
Its nearness to me more coveted than ambition

23. With fruits and wine it drew near quenching me
From both cupbearers with the tap

24. Wherever the time's face turned away from me emaciated
And the plants of youth other than mature

25. Oh youth's time you quenched with the river valleys
Where is my cup, my meadow, and my companion

26. Of faces' beauty my yearning fell short
And my praise craves the beauty of knowledge

27. A lord and son of a lord enamored my praise
In them the generous and son of the generous

28. And an imam whose thoughts' prayer niche
While all people are like the illiterate

29. Give glad tidings to his house so long in esteem
With a boy in the two worlds all-knowing

30. Of speech in which the essence of eloquence gathered
And the mighty's power became submissive

31. Where is Abdel Hameed from his flowing prose
Which he clothed in the garb of the despised

32. Where is Sa'eed's poetry from it and from the strength
Of what the son of Eadeem has penned

33. That line which made Ibn Muqlah pale
One day proudly with unforgiving pride

34. Crawling between lines and pages
As two armies black and Roman marched

35. I listened to your speech oh son of Ali
A collar of glory around the eminent steadfast

36. And your right hand served me a cup of wine
Mixed in it temperance with breeze

37. The tongues of worshippers meet it in wonder
And extend the palm of peace

38. It has no flaw save that I in incapacity
Complained the plaint of the wronged about it

39. When time turned away my tongue and dried
My resources and the blowing of my breeze stopped

40. And I saw words children of thought
They shunned me by faces of worries

41. So thought became in estrangement incapacity
While they from it are in the utmost prohibition

42. My strength for praise fell short so pardon
In my composition the shame of patchworking

43. And conceal the secret from the faults that appeared
For my joy is in its concealed secret
