وغيداء يعزى طرفها لكنانة

1. Her cheek is attributed to the redness of the rose
And her garment's blue is attributed to lavender

١. وغيداء يعزى طرفها لكنانةٍ
ومعطفها الميَّاد يعزى إلى النضر

2. Her lips were protected from the one who desires by her veil
Just as Indian swords protect the inviolability of land

٢. حمتْ ثغرها عن راشفٍ بلحاظِها
كذاك سيوف الهند تحمي حمى الثغر

3. My eyelids, when tears stream from them
For love of her are like the hand of al-Mu'ayyad in generosity

٣. كأن جفوني حين تسفح بالبكى
على حبِّها كفُّ المؤيد بالتبر

4. May God watch over the days of al-Mu'ayyad
Never in our lives have seasons of time ceased

٤. رعى الله أيام المؤيد إنَّها
ولا برحتْ فينا مواسم للدهر

5. A king whose knowledge equals his attainment
As though they are two seas that met upon a sea

٥. مليك تساوى علمه ونواله
كأنَّهما بحران جاءا على بحر

6. O supreme king, I give you glad tidings of the approaching feast
And good tidings for all people in the rain from your palms in generosity

٦. مليكَ العلى بشراك بالعيد مقبلاً
وبشرى الورى من سحب كفَّيك بالعشر

7. And I congratulated you on the feast whose sacrifice stood tall
Until your enemies made the feast into slaughter

٧. وهنئت بالفطر الذي قام ناحراً
عداتك حتَّى أشكل الفطر بالنحر
