1. If one like me is lost to one like you
Then by the glory of virtues, with others I am lost

2. When does complaining help if I find
No care from you, except that you listen

3. It would not have been hard had you favored me with a word
To turn away troubles and restrain me

4. And said: a man deserves thanks and reward
And kindness, he is worthy and deserving

5. A foreigner far from his people and home
I will help him, God gives and denies

6. I will be patient until the term of estrangement ends
And patience is but some of what I endure

7. Perhaps the darkness of life that has befallen me
Will soon be dispelled like a summer cloud

8. Moreover, I am content with what I am doing
Even if severed seeking reunion with a loved one

9. Straitened living has confined me like a dove
Yet here I am composing poems for you

10. And my thoughts become like perfumed incense
When an ember makes its darkness glow
