1. The words of eulogy, though the veil prevents
Their sound, in your elegy are heard

2. Yet my encirclement of it urges me, Nasiriyyah,
To wail and pour forth lament

3. Why not, when I saw him in flames
Of parted love that will not return

4. Will he be quick to generosity with wealth, while I do not see
With my eyelids' water, streaming, hastened?

5. My tears in weeping are as if
Upon my cheek's platter from my heart's blood they seethe

6. We have been afflicted with what it specifically afflicted
With the likes of which the eyelids are bloodied and made to weep

7. An affliction that was for one whose origin was joy
And every joyous thing branched from it

8. Why then do I not eulogize its piety and superiority?
And eulogize for him while my heart, burning, aches

9. And lament for the niche, lantern of Radiance
With the light of piety, all night long aflame

10. And lament for benevolence and righteousness, comfort
You see the comfort of its weary people when it avails

11. And I lament it for dust from the veils of the Exalted
A trust deposited to Eden escorted

12. And lament it for the day, fasting, and for nightfall
Prayers and invocations and ritual dispensed

13. And for the House, House of Virtue, cloudy its purity
And for the House, from essence of Purity, when it pours forth

14. Oh what a new House that wept for her
And ancient House towards her looking up

15. Oh what a sorrow that renews itself in us
With it, Jacob's sorrow that nearly uprooted him

16. And a brother's sorrow who was neighbored by nobility
For it, and to the House of Nobilities inclined

17. And elders' sorrow, or youth lined up
Black and fawns walking, following suit

18. It is death, a cup of hot torment
And of regrets before it, imbibed

19. And dispenser for the righteous spirits’ ransom
As if in taking his ransom, assembled

20. And seven nights encircling creation
With a kind of predation, never sated

21. Verily in God's cause, dear treasure’s ransom
She passed on and left most intense sorrow to graze

22. Peace and contentment upon him, and mercy
And spirit and gladness and wine abundant

23. In a direction, though it's said sixth, it is
Upon it from the six directions lamenting

24. The fire of sorrow touching him grieves her
While she in the Gardens of the Exalted enjoys

25. Had she known his affliction that befell him
She would have nearly, in the Garden Eternal, agonized

26. And she did not depart until she saw in him something
She wished, so nothing of turtle-doves would startle her

27. And if given a choice she would not have accepted but to stay
And He moved her, so the intention perfectly suited her

28. And how many times did his words ransom her with his soul?
So it is proven what she used to expect of him

29. And he bid her farewell with righteousness, provision exemplary
So for him an exemplary farewell and bidding adieu

30. Delighted are the bearers of her bier at the rising of his bier
Yes, and the daughters of bier, which will rise?

31. She was but a tremor of sorrow
But for it the resolute spirits loftier still

32. Eloquent, we knew his skill with words
So what ability in his preaching feigned?

33. He watered her grave with a downpour as if
He called it upon us, ample and pouring down

34. And alleviated from her depths a blaze, if only
Passing clouds from a near pouring forth exposing

35. We hoped intuitively for the return of the departed
And the return of others the earth has concealed

36. If the departed prevented themselves from endeavoring to us
We do not prevent endeavoring to them
